It is almost Decemeber!! TIME to get ready for the winter promises and New Year's resolutions! What better way to begin the season of HOPE AND PROMISE than to have a pledge to ourselves to continue on the path to better health and ultimately more satisfaction in attaining our own goals.

THIS GAME is open to anyone following a total carb ATKINS' plan. We would love to see new faces here to offer our support and motivation to. AND although we applaud everyone that tries to improve their health by ANY PLAN, it is better for us to be able to help each other with the same issues of one plan.

If interested, come on and hop in.

Good morning! Here we go ladies on a new game! Good luck to everyone!!

Tam wow you rock! No only not gaining but actually losing while on vacation! Amazing!

Cricket normally I'd cheer Florida on since I used to live in Jacksonville but since you're an Alabama fan i'll be sure to cheer them on instead just for you.I really hope you can get that shoulder and all your meds squared away. It has been so great the last 2 years with you and I being so close in weight. I think it really helped to keep us both motivated.

Paulette i'm so frustrated for you my dear friend. I still believe that once you get that ob/gyn issue resolved you will start to lose again. My fingers and toes are crossed for your appointment this week. Enjoy your birthday meal today!

Barb I agree with Cricket in that the hair loss comes and goes. Glad you had a good time with your granddaughter. I'm with you on dropping the calories. I have been doing 1400 lately but i'm thinking I need to go back to 1200-1300 to get back within my acceptable goal perimeters. Good luck!

Himi congratulations on maintaining a loss for the week. I'm so glad your mom made stuff acceptable for low carb. I only use kale in my lc zuppa tuscana soup but hmmm I saute' everything else in bacon grease I think i'll give kale a try this week.

Chrissie you go girl! Congratulations on taking the game! That's it you've brought out my competitive nature so this week it's on like donkey kong!!

Can you believe it? I am up 2 whole lbs this morning.

TAM - yes, the decreasing of calories does nothing for me but make me hungry. But I am so desperate to lose SOMETHING. I am still going to try and keep them down this week in hopes that it might make a difference. So far - nothing but a big gain. SIGH. Oh well - I am so happy that you are still losing so effortlessly.

CRICKET - I asked my Dr. about giving me a diuretic but she does not think it is necessary. I am going to order some dandelion tea and drink it. Dandelion leaves are supposed to be a good natural diuretic and have potassium, too. I wish it was summer here and I could gather all the dandelion leaves I want for free! But I am determined to keep this fluid retention to a minimum. What do you think of drinking dandelion tea?

OK - today is Ed's procedure day and we will be stopping at the Golden Corral for lunch afterwards. I already have my menu planned out. My daily calories will be 1242 and I will eat a rotisserie chicken breast, some Tilapia and a small salad with chicken and shrimp. I am going to bring my own mayo for the fish in case they don't have any. Their tartar is pretty low in carbs, so I may have a couple Tbl of that. Carbs should be less than 10 for the day. I hope I do not get too hungry by then and want to overeat.

We will not be leaving for a couple hours yet. I think I can manage. I hope the high sodium foods do not cause another massive gain tomorrow.

I will stop back before we leave to see how we are doing. I hope the rest of us can have a good loss today!

Hi All,

Got the house to myself, so no interruptions, like yesterday down . 4 today, but signed in so late last night I just corrected my bottom line weight and added the .2 to this week. I hope that is okay?

Paulette: My mom has been trying to get me to drink dandelion tea forever! She claims it cures whatever ails you, However, here is the disclaimer: My mom has been into natural cures, vitamins etc, since the early 70's. She put us kids through a lot (including swallowing raw liver, banana yeast milkshakes, and lecithin...yuck!!) I think it is my rebellion of what she made us take back then, that keeps me from trying dandelion tea. So, if you try it and it helps, let me know...I might...might...try it. I hope the reduction in calories helps you. I just know being hungry, is never my friend. So, until I get a whole lot closer to goal, or just go into a plateau for at least 6 weeks or longer, I am just going to feed the need. As far as losing effortlessly, I am very happy with my results, but not sure it is without effort. Facing the cruise ships abundance of available food sure in the heck wasn't without effort. Sorry you are up, I want so much for you to get off the roller coaster!

Cricket: Your welcome, sorry for the late post. I should have read before posting that you had already started the new game. I am hoping you will show some losses this week.

Kathy: Thank you!

Nothing like starting off the new game with a nice gain Hoping its just all the salty stuff from yesterday's feast-- and the extra kale.

Paulette there was an interesting discussion on one of lowcarb facebook groups I read over yesterday about ketosis and female hormones, and there were other women who had experienced extended periods/bleeding, and suspected that being in long-term ketosis might have been a factor-- that, and the release of hormones from all the fat they had been losing. They were also posting some articles talking about leptin and women experiencing resistance to weight loss unless they actually added back some carbs, but these women were usually having the opposite problem-- their menstrual cycles had ceased. Being in ketosis/extended weight loss definitely does not affect all women/their hormones the same way but the general concensus was that it could definitely affect female hormones and cause irregularities with female cycles and and ongoing weight loss, especially if there was already something going on (for example PCOS, fibroids, etc) it made me think of your ongoing issues. No easy answers but something else to research I guess.

Aaah my little mini whoosh was a day late to end yesterdays game in a loss but at least I start this new game with a loss so all is well. TOM still isn't here but I finished the last of my ham on Friday night so I guess I just dropped the sodium retention from all that ham. I miss my ham already but I don't miss the water retention for sure.

Paulette my sweet patient friend I am so sad for you and your meany hormones. I am looking forward to your ob/gyn appt probably more than you are. I want you body to do what you have earned instead of what it feels like! I'm so frustrated for you! I hope you have a great meal at Golden Corral and that Ed's appt goes well.

Himi I'm so sorry you hit a kale speed bump today. No worries...I'm sure it's just a temporary gain from the sodium of yesterdays feast. I too have read stuff about people having TOM problems from low carb. Personally i've found over the last 2 years that if I can just resist the carbs and continue to workout during PMS my TOM goes alot smoother. When I give into the carb cravings or don't stay consistent at the gym like I did a few weeks ago my TOM is now more brutal than it ever was pre-low carb. I guess it's an all or nothing kinda thing and i'm sure you're right in that everyone is different.

Tam yea on being on the mini slide with me! Wow the house to yourself...Hmm don't get into any mischief now! I'm so sorry you also had a mom that tried all kinds of crazy stuff. My mom took me and my brother on a diet roller coaster as kids. Most were no big deal since luckily my mom has little willpower but my worst experiences were with the prunes yuck! Although thanks to her grapefruit diet I actually like the yellow grapefruit even now.

Cricket yea on getting a good deal on your syrup. I actually just threw away 2 bottles that I bought 2 years ago. Unfortunately I haven't come to appreciate them the way you have. I hope you get a loss tomorrow from all the cleaning you've been doing lately. Surely you've burned lots of fats with all that manual labor.

Shout out to Chrissie, Barb and Jodi

OY..where to begin but start with HOWDIE KAthy, you are right that we did so well together and will again!
CALORIES DO COUNT..repeat CALORIES DO COUNT. Look.. it has nothing to do with ketosis. It is caloris not carb. It does take the same 3.500 calories to either gain or lose one pound. That is enegy spent, pmitted ot added. Not rocket science. Never chanbges so ecen with the hormonal situation, it counts and will catch up. 3,500 is a LOT of calories.
Regarding the resarch stuff.. some is just stupid oputright guess work by people not knowing but stated in such a manner it SOUNDS to be correct. Leptin.. BS. I checked that crap out and it is nothing uselful there. Hormones yes will trigger weight gain but it does not work the opther way around. Weigh loss does not casue weight gain other than the refilling of delpeting fat cells with other fluid as our b odily defense are put into practice. IF any of that were to be ture there would be a lot more fat epople here and no one would be losing weight. Think about it. I, for one, did the weight loss after hormones went crazy and surgical intervention was used. Loss was easy and fine. Paulette will lose east and fine as well. I will bet several degrees and one doctorate that her gains were in conjunction with hormoal irregularities .

DANDELION TEA??? I do not eat weeds. All kidding ( and truth aside) Pollie.. you have enough Carffeine every day top be a diuretic. Caffeine IS a diuretic. You can get OTC "water pills" and main ingredient is caffeine..

TAM... no offense please.. BUT your MOM is not to be considered at all. I think she is nuts. There, I said it with as much respect as I can muster. He may have every one's best interest at heart. but her thought porcess is really off if not bad. Raw liver is dangerous. It is the one organ that all substances get filtered by.. all those poisons there.. just to start.. It is a wonder you all survived her.. LOVE HER AND RESPECT her but IGNORE THOSE IDEAS>>

Himi.. not the best way to start a game but you lost a lot so refilling time is here. Bet it comes off soon and fast! I could never get into kale. I love spinach but to me, kale is bitter..and believe you me KALE was at every meal down south!! and here we add that disgusting OKRA.. ugh pewwie.. I have made that gummy slimmy thing everyway possible. I was given tons of it and really did not want to toss food away. TOSS AWAY!

It is almost 3 PM and I got some reasonable sleep.. interrupted for certain but I slept in intervals at least. Did take a mug of coffee that was not my friend.. really bad indegestion/heart burn..just had 2 small nibbles off a drumstick. the same one I have tried to choke down for 3 days. Maybe a can of tuna with mayo, sf relish and green onion for dinner.. maybe. Carl is working closing hours.. off at 9PM.Jodi has another disc of the ORiginals so we will watch them tonight.
The shed is cleaned out and vacuumed! Just a few things on a bottom shelf to sort and move/ just a small box worth. I moved the grain saks myslef..9 of them and I survived without ripping apart my shoulder Felt good to do physical work.It is already stiffening up but I can take a couple of Ibuprofen if it gets bad. PT at 7:30 AM will work that out!
I have a small loss and am happy. The old scale Mambo at work.

A quick update. Ed's procedure took a lot longer than I thought. We weren't able to eat until almost 4pm and I was starving. I tried to stay with my planned menu, though, although I have a bit more salad than I planned. It was a nice plateful.

All meat was terribly salty! I am used to cooking my own food, and I swear their chicken AND fish tasted like it was soaked in salt overnight! I am dreading what my weight will be tomorrow. I ate too much too late, combined with about a gallon of liquids! Water and coffee (while I waited for Ed). This was all caffeine coffee, too. I had about 40 oz of it, I swear. And an awful lot of water with dinner and after...

I drink a lot of decaf at home, only regular in the morning. About 2-3 cups. But today I had all regular. Funny, I don't feel energized. It is 7:14 now and I am very tired, so I am going to bed now.

Congrats to you guys who lost, and sorry about the gain, HIMI. I don't feel so alone now.

I will deal with my weight come morning. I hope I can sleep in all day long.

I've got an early appointment so up at 4ish for me.BARB.. you will be the last weigh in today so please do change the chart? OR anyone else please do that

Kathy, nice start to the game, TamTAM, WTG on a new start. POLLIEQUE>>> HUHS to you is all I can do. The lower calories and that deficit will add up. All water for you. I would try the OTC pills if DR refuses to comply. You can always take Potassium gluconate to off set the effect.
HIMI.. just S/E from foods and losses. All retention flux there.

There should be a book called THE WORLD ACCORDING TO TOM! It runs lives! One of the reasons why men will lose faster than women is the hormonal imbalaces we suffer. They also have a higher muscle mass so that will burn off more calories than just our fluffy stuff.

Yes, it felt great to do manual labor! My shoulder is a bit stiff and I am just fine with that. Tomorrow after the PT I need to go scout out my holiday cards and do a little banking.. I got the refund check for the cashew milk. That 4 bucks just made me a millionaire LOL!
CHRISSIE... as you would say.. FLUX SHMUX... hope you are feeling better!
