Default Metamucil

I would like to increase my fiber. The sugar free Metamucil powder has 11 grams of carbs per serving and it suggested serving is to take it three times a day. That would be adding 33 grams of carbs to my already low-carb diet. I would feel like I wouldn't be able to eat any type of carb after having the metamucil. I don't like the capsules, so that's out of the question. Would I add the carbs from the Metamucil into my diet?? Very confused.

Thank you

I looked up sugar-free metamucil.

The second ingredient is maltodextrin. This allows the sugar-free label, it's not technically a simple sugar. But it's as readily digestible as glucose.

The label says 11 grams of carbohydrate, 5 grams as fiber, that leaves 6 grams of what might as well be sugar per serving. Personally, I wouldn't count the fiber as carbohydrate, but I would count that other 6 grams. A lot of people have gotten away from the idea of net carbs. I think the biggest problem with net carbs was that some sugar alcohols, and various scam supposedly undigestible carbohydrate products sort of ruined the concept. I subtract actual fiber from carbohydrate content, and nothing else.

You'd be better off finding some plain psyllium husk somewhere and just sweetening it yourself, with some sugar-free water flavour drops or something.

The old Atkins forum 'muffin in a mug' was a great way to add fiber and stay low caarb-ish. Personally fiber does not help my intestinal process, but it works for some.

I tried sugar free metamucil and it did not work for me. I am very sensitive to carbs and need to limit them to less than 20 net.
In order to be "regular" I ate sauerkraut and natural pickles, lettuce, cabbage and green beans, and took Ex Lax on alternate days for 5 days. Also, coconut oil, because of the medium chain triglycerides is helpful, in moderation. I no longer require the Ex Lax and "go" at least every other day, sometimes every day.
