Of course coffee in the morning is a great wake-up treat, that is why I drink some.

You are correct (again). I know what you mean about this. Funny thing is, I was always trying to give up butter (another paleo thing, you know), and use bison tallow for cooking... until you came along and said to not worry about dairy!

Bear,
i really think there is something physical as well as mental going on !! i really do! We will have to agree to disagree on this one! And other physical things such as tiredness and crabbiness are going on as well.

It is ok to 'like' pigs, some people even keep the smaller breeds as pets, but I would not advise eating them. Or rats or bear either- for that matter.

Omnivores are not healthy sources for food, they are usually ridden with parasites (as may be carnivores, but they are rarely on the table) and pigs especially may be carriers of various human-effecting diseases, even if on the usually cursory meat inspection they appear healthy.

I assure you all, mental CAUSES physical, bigtime. The correct term is psychosomatic and it has been known to even kill people ('pointing the bone') where shaman are concerned).

Poor deano..now hes giving up his coffee and his butter..pretty soon you won't have anything left to eat !!

I still say cook your eggs in Butter deano (on low of course!)...and use the tallow for the meat. i will use it for the meat if i ever figure out where to buy it around here!

Sausage and bacon are preserved meats, and are LOADED with salt and chemicals. Sausage is often 20% or more cereal. I like eggs, plain. I eat eggs with any and everything. In Australia they invented the breakfast of 'steak and eggs'.

I think you just love salt, and texture, not bacon per se.

WOW! loaded with salt and chemicals..that stinks..but i do get the low sodium bacon! hmmm..i guess maybe i better stop eating the bacon and sausage and get some more variety in my meats..i cant afford steak everyday. What about hamburger...i sure hope there is nothing wrong with hamburger. What is the best steak to eat with steak and eggs?

That is why I am here, to share my knowledge. You would be surprised at what you can pick up in 71 years by keeping your eyes and ears open, your mind relaxed (and reading a lot from age 2).

Bear,
i really appreciate you spending the time to answer all my questions. I am serious about eating this way. i know it is going to be hard and i really hope i can do it. I probably will come up with a million more questions for you as i progress in this way of eating. i take your input seriously, even though i often kid around. I figure YOU are the one with the 47 yrs worth of experience so you know what your doing! i wish you had like a list of all the things you eat..lol

OK... so, I was going to ask you what the deal was with not eating pork. You are not the only one damning pigs as food... but, this is the best explanation I have ever heard. Thanks. I will now understand why I won't eat pork in the future.

So... how do you get over the mental thing? And, why is it that if I eat fat, I feel great, and if I don't, I am edgy as ever... even shaky?

Everyone, please! You have to stop analysing your food to death. Mate any meat with any other, and enjoy it. Menus don't matter. What matters is that you enjoy the food and are satisfied when you finish.

Don't say 'I can't afford...' use your brains, check the newspapers, track down the specials, get your fat/suet for free, inquire about deals on quantity.

Buy meat by the block, pieces packed in cryovac, etc. You may be able to get a wholesaler to sell such blocks to you. Unopened cryovac bags will keep for weeks at 2C (36F). If you carefully and minimally slit open one end of the bag and drain off the juices, you can spend a week or more slicing off of it.

Get a good knife and a sharpener. Cut steaks from the block as you eat it, reclosing the cryovac bag with clothes pegs. The meat will keep very well no need to freeze it.

Spend less time thinking and worrying and more time just eating and living.

I will eat anything and virtually everything NOT a vegetable. I choose not to eat pork and turkey. Otherwise any meat sold in the market is fine. I like rabbit, duck and goose, they are rarely available. I avoid preserved and/or frozen food. I sometimes freeze cooked food, however. On the occasion we buy some nice, preservative free, low salt, all beef sausages from a specialist butcher in David Jones Basement down in Sydney, and bring home more than we can eat in a few days, I will freeze some of them.

I have spent several posts on alcohol, covering the fact it damages the liver, interferes with strength training and is a VERY fattening carb (7 cal.gm).

Karen,

Do you have a Costco near by? They sell all kinds of meat packed in cryovac. Like rib eye or tenderloin, for instance. You can just slice off whatever thickness you want.

I have a confession.

Since moving over to the meat and fat way of eating (which I love, by the way), I've come up against a problem that you all might be able to help me with.

With all that lovely melted butter and fat on my plate after I've finished my steak or eggs, I can't seem to let it go to waste. I've, ummmm, taken to picking up my plate and licking every last drop of that lovely fat off!

Whereas this is fine in the privacy of my own home, I'm afraid I might find myself doing it in fine restaurants and eating establishments!

I feel that this is wrong. Is this part of the acculturation I need to get over?

Hahaha, very funny Bawdy, I do the exact same thing with the fat left on my plate after eating the meat or eggs.

My mother is absolutely grossed by this, and my gf keeps telling me to stop doing it...

Is this confession time? Because I'm in. As long as my husband isn't looking He's grossed out by fat that is obviously fat.

I'm secretly not eating vegetables. DH would have a fit if he found out, it wouldn't be AS bad if it were me alone but I'm nursing. I'd been reluctantly eating a few duty veggies here and there and gave them up completely after reading this thread. Though I'll probably munch on homemade kimchee once a month or two. I'm also a little under the weather today and am beating DH off with a stick trying to escape the greens and fruit that are being pressed on me "for the minerals" of which I have been told that are obviously depleted given the unhealthy way I've been eating lately. Heheh. DH asked me "Imagine if <our baby> turns into a vegetarian?" That would be a problem for me!! Right now he's happily eating blue steak, marrow, duck and a little butter while refusing veggies so I dont' think that will be an issue. He even prefers tiny chunks to pureed. So cute to me!

I completely thought I was alone.

I tried to stop doing it in front of people, but finally I broke down and told my boyfriend. I said, "look when you aren't here I totally lick my plate to get all the butter. You're just going to have to accept it"

He thought it was hilarious and, now, when we eat together I get every last drop of fat!
