I melt two tablespoons of coconut oil, then divide it into six silicon muffin moulds and freeze them. When they are solid, I ease them out of the moulds, but put them back in the freezer, then take them out and snack on them. With very little imagination, you can convince yourself you are eating a round of white chocolate.

I get mine from the local Asian market. Way cheaper than health food stores, and I can't tell the difference in taste.

Default cocnut oil

Is the Louann's coconut oil found at Walmart as effective as the more expensive kinds sold in health food stores?

I love coconut oil and drink it in my coffee as breakfast some days. Not the bland stuff you get at Walmart though - yuck! That's okay for cooking but totally tasteless. I buy the Nutiva brand from http://www.netrition.com.

I use two teaspoons every morning, one per cup of coffee, and love it! I got mine at GNC (cost like $13.00) but well worth it. Not only is a good way to get my fat in the morning, but I have found my hair is improving a lot! Helping get rid of the "frizzies" and making it nice and smooth. Just another benefit!

To reply to the question about how much coconut oil are you supposed to have to get the full bennies---most literature suggests that you start off with about a tablespoon per day and gradually work your way up to 3 tablespoons. If you were to just start off with the 3 tablespoons you might suffer some digestive *cough* issues.

I believe that Louann's coconut oil is refined. A while back I looked at the label and decided not to buy it, probably becaue it is refined. Of course I can always be wrong!

Absolutely - I found I can buy a pound jar for under £2 (about US$4) at my local asian shop as compared to half the size of jar from the health food shop for about £10 (US$20)

LOL, I wish I knew that before I shelled out 10 quid! And the worst thing is, I'm surrounded by Asian shops... (which are, incidentally, becoming more and more Polish by the day )

What are some other things you can do with it? I have never used it. Isn't that the thickener used in smoothies? Or am I thinking of something else?

You can cook with it, melt it into your coffee for some quick energy, rub it on your skin. There was a thread a while back about a thermogenic cookie which had a lot of coconut oil, almond butter and flaxmeal in it. I like to freeze it and then eat it like a piece of chocolate.

Where can I buy it? Our grocery stores have very little diet stuff and the nutrition centers have very little, where I live.

Of all I have tried Nutiva is the best tasting, no soapy taste. I go thru a lot of it in Winter, mostly in hot drinks, but somewhat less in Summer. I use the cheaper stuff like Lou Ann for cooking.
