Default Soy Flakes for Gra(no)la

Karen,

Am trying to make Gra(no)la from your new book (which is WONDERFUL), but I haven't been able to find soy flakes. I live in Houston and went to Whole Foods, but they didn't have anything called soy flakes - they hadn't even heard of them. I did find their something called Soy Granules, as well as soy nuts (which perhaps could be chopped or processed to get flakes). Any suggestions?

Phil

Hi Phil,

I just want to let you know that Karen is out of town as present (see her "sticky" at the top of this forum). She will be back in just over a week.

Welcome to the forum.

Rosebud,

Thanks. I saw the sticky but thought I would post this anyway while I thought of it.

Thanks for the compliment!

They look like flattened soybeans, because that's what they are. I get them here at a local, natural foods chain called Capers which is owned by Wild Oats in the States.

I sent an email to Bob's Red Mill because I'm sure that they used to carry them. Maybe I just can't find them on their site.

For the soy flakes in the granola, sub half TVP and half sliced almonds to make up the same amount of soy flakes.

Thanks - I will try that. The "soy granules" worked OK too - whatever they were!
