Nippon Fare in Rokeby Road Subiaco also stock these noodles. They're kept in the fridge in case you didn't know.

Default Thanks, cant wait to try it out

Hi there!

Thanks for the addresses. Went to Nippon Fare in Subi today, they had run out of the shirotake noodles, but fortunately had some konnyaku in blocks which I bought. Chatted to the lady who was very nice, she suggested that they it be dipped in hot water for approx 15 secs before using and suggested a stirfry with other veggies.

I then went to Loy's supermarket on Barrack Street in the city and they stocked the noodles, they were as described ready to go, packed in liquid, only they were not in the fridge (will that be a problem. Can they go off?). ALSO, the label quotes 2.3gms carb per 100gms, of which 2.2 sugars??!!! . The ingredients only have : water, yam powder and coagulant. No fibre quantified either. Please advise. All in all though, I suppose even 4gms carb per 180 gms(serving size of one pack) is still low compared to any other noodle. Will have to let all know what it tastes like!

they arne't always in the fridge, they won't go off if they are packed in water. if you use them, parboil them for a few minutes. before doing that, cut them up a little to make them easier to eat. and be warned, they do give off a slightly fishy smell when cooking, it seems to go when mixed with other food. it works ok with spag bol, not quite pasta but it makes do. awesome in asian foods.

Success! Used the shirotake noodles last night with a spicier version of my bolognaise sauce and it was just beautiful. After nearly three months without pasta this was a treat. Especially as I have been eating the meat sauce on its own with salad previously. Yes they did smell funny only at first, but there was no smell to spoil the meal. Quite like the texture, will definitely use again. Its not pasta or noodles being tastless but it isnt bad, especially with yummy grated cheese over the lot. Thanks all for your help in finding and cooking these.
