Default Eggs and Cholesterol in Diet

One last question that concerns me. The Schwarzbein Diet calls for pretty much 2-3 eggs a day. There is pretty much no breakfast in the book that has no eggs even the vegetarian. The American Heart Institution calls for 3-4 eggs weekly. How is eating 2-3 eggs daily improve your system? Im afraid this may be too much cholesterol. Help!

thank you

gnati

There's more and more evidence that cholesterol is healthy. I wouldn't worry about eating 2-3 eggs a day. Check in the news section for a recent article about the modern cholesterol myth.

Natalie,

Fujiwara's right on target. Cholesterol is required by the body, and is a critical precursor for some processes. If we don't consume enough cholesterol, our bodies will manufacture it!

Blessings,

-Don

But what about those of us who can't eat eggs? I have an allergy to them. I'd love the protein and convenience of an egg and veggie omelet every once in a while, but it can't be done.

Any suggestions for alternatives? Thanks!

When you have an egg allergy, is it to the yolk? or the white or the whole thing?

I don’t know whatever gave you that idea, I was doing the Schwarzbein for several months and don’t think I ate an egg in that entire time!!! Just because the recipes or suggestions in the book call for eggs does not mean that eggs are mandatory, they’re probably used as examples because many people like or are accustomed to eating them at breakfast. Meat, fish, tofu or cottage cheese proteins can be used instead of eggs at breakfast.

I eat cold shrimp and cold chicken because I am very allergic to eggs - white and yolks are out. I am also sensitive to beef, dairy and wheat gluten, and so far I am doing very well and have lost 9.5 lbs in a little over 2 weeks. I am doing a modified version of Schwarzbein (lower in fat).
Many people like pork sausages or patties, hamburger, steak and as KoKo suggested, cottage or ricotta cheese.

Best of luck - Ali
