Default Synthroid increase, TSH increase too!!!

Hi.
I am post RAI 5 yrs ago. Was fine on levoxyl..levels were great.
I moved and changed insurance. They put me on synthroid. I took .137 and my tsh was 4.7 so they upped it to .150 and my tsh actually went UP to 6.9!

I moved to a very high altitude city with colder weather than I was used to and I moved from sea level (does this matter?).

Has anyone had this happen? What on Earth can be the cause? Now I am on .175 and am praying to get some energy soon!

Thanks for any help. I would really appreciate any comments.

Sara

TSH varies naturally throughout the day, so it could just be a normal variation. How long was it between tests? Your TSH is definitely too high though, you need more thyroid hormone.

Thanks for the reply.
It was 2 months from test to test. Will get it checked this time at 6 weeks for sure.

You might try to get it tested at the same time of the day too. I'm trying to remember when it is higher... I'm thinking mornings but I could be wrong.

I had something similar happen. I moved from san diego to denver and I had to increase a lot. I have read that everyones thyroid slows down a little in winter so maybe a harsher winter would affect us a little but we should be great in the summer then.

I wonder if its the medication change affecting you also. My dr told me to pick one type of T4 replacement and stick with it, since it changes between manufacturers and even different lots.

Synthroid on affects T4, which our bodies should convert to T3. However, I am one of those people where the former does not happen. Hence, my doctor put me on cytomel, which is specific for T3. I would check with your doctor about this. Jill

See if your insurance company would cover you if your doctor prescribed the old med you were on.

Frankly, I woudn't ever take a synthetic again. Nothing but trouble.
