Hi Ruth

The Host is the wafer that Catholics eat at communion. I'm not Catholic so that's about all I know about it maybe someone else can tell you more.

I would guess that a really small wafer would probably not be a problem diet-wise but if it's a large wafer it could be problematic. If it's "bite sized" then it's probably fine.

Besides, remember that this is a way of life (WOL), not a "diet." If going to Church and taking the host is important to you spiritually, then I wouldn't recomend abandoning it. It's part of your life.

Now, if there's a huge potluck after services are over, THAT'S when you need to exibit self control!

Okay, I posted about this when I started and WOW did I tick folks off. It got a whole religious debate started. Bottom line? It didn't kick me out of ketosis. I never really found out how many carbs are in the body of christ, but apparently it's not many.

I'm Anglican, and the host dosn't bother my ketosis, either, nor does the sip of wine.

Ditto for this Lutheran.

I'm on the Altar Guild and those wafers are very light. An entire roll of them weighs practically nothing. I'd guess 1 gram of carb for a wafer, surely no more than 2. From the shipping information on a couple of sites, we're talking less than 2 grams of shipping weight per wafer, and some of that is gluten.

When I asked this question in June, after the religious debate settled down, someone said this:

"The exact amount of carbohydrates in communion bread can vary greatly depending on a number of factors. Some denominations use only unleavened bread in small wafers. In these cases the amount of carbohydrates per wafer is approximately 2-3. Grape juice or wine adds another 1-2 carbohydrates, making the total only 3-5 carbohydrates per communion."

According to this website, there is less that 1 carb in a wafer, but it depens on the type/ brand that your church uses: http://www.ener-g.com/store/detail....19&cat=19&id=21

As a non-believer I also think I'll keep my comments to myself. But damn, they were funny.
