Question some blood checking questions

I'm 3 weeks into checking my blood and doing LCHF. I have two questions: 1) Do vitamins raise your blood sugar ( I take C, D, E, Probiotic, Magnesium, Potassium and melatonin) ? 2) my fasting days so far (2 of them) my blood sugar stays its fasting high (of the morning) till I eat dinner then it drops. Is that normal?

I've found that I can't fast - I can't even skip breakfast. If I skip breakfast my BG will either stay high or go higher. If I go too long between meals my BG will also rise.

Don't know about the vitamins. You might check with the manufacturer about the carb count. Even with fillers, tho, they shouldn't add much. But on a VLC diet you'll want to count every carb.

Heavy exercise, and that might include brisk walking, can raise blood sugar. Leisurely walking should lower it. But don't draw any conclusions from a one-time event. Look at the long term picture.

Does your cycle raise blood sugar? Today my fast sugar was 145 and my two hour 135. Far from my 120 average before.

Possible according to that list of 27 things that can impact BG readings I've posted before.

I found out today that I notice when my blood sugar is up. I feel tired and achy.

From that list:

Quote:
Fatty foods tend to make people with diabetes more insulin resistant, meaning more insulin is often needed to cover the same amount of food relative to a similar meal without the fat. On my pump, I typically use temporary basals or extended boluses (square and dual-wave) to cover high-fat meals. This effect is most notable if you eat a lot of fat at one time – for instance, when snacking on nuts, I’ll observe a steady rise in blood glucose over many hours. - See more at: http://diatribe.org/issues/68/adams...h.59ZPhGRT.dpuf

Dr. Berstein says that Vit. C doesn't neccesarily rasie BG but that over 250mg a day messes the testing strips up to give a false reading.

From Bernstein's book, 2007:

"Dietary vitamin C is important to good health. In doses above 500 mg/day, however, vitamin C supplements can destroy the enzymes on blood sugar test strips and can also raise blood sugars. Finally, in levels higher than about 400 mg/day, vitamin C becomes an oxidant rather than an antioxidant and can cause neuropathies. If you are already taking supplemental Vitamin C, I urge you to taper it off or lower your dose to no more than 250 mg daily. Only use the timed-release form."

In the Atkins Diabetes book: ..."if you have insulin/blood sugar imbalances, the minimum should be 2,000mg" What I take in a split dose as advised. Dr. Atkins was a big fan of Vitamin C for many reasons. So color me confused.

I had big bumps in my bg when I tried to introduce a complete multivitamin supplement. When I stopped taking it after a few days, my bg returned to normal. Can't say for sure it was the cause so I plan to try again in a week or two.

My bg has always fallen from the fbg on my fasting days, but I do include co with my tea in the morning and bone broth at noon.

From a pharmacology standpoint I don't believe it matters. But taking it in the evening is sometimes better tolerated in terms of gi upset.
