Question

Does anyone know anything regarding antidepressants with the WOE, does it slow it down or speed it up?? I started to take wellbutrin yesterday, but will stop if it is going to affect my weight loss, which is my number one
priority. My weight loss has halted for about a week now, but I think it could be just water build up, (TOM)..

Default Antidepressants

Usually antidepressants will make people lose but I did meet a lady at a party Friday night that said her Zyban which is the very same thing as Wellbutrin made her eat. My doctor told me that it would make me lose weight. I took Zyban before and wellburin to help me stop smokinhg and never noticed anything one way or the other. It affects different poeple different ways I guess.

Im not really sure Sadai, maybe do a web search on the different side effects?? I have no real idea as nnn said, I think its just another one of those YMMV issues.

Maybe just try it and see how you do. Best of wishes to you and welcome

Post antidepressants and side effects

hi Sandi, and everybody,

Wellbutrin is relatively new, and it appears to have far fewer side effects than other classes of antidepressants. Most of the drug databases listed weight LOSS experienced by 23% of patients, while weight GAIN was reported less than 10%. The most serious side effects seem to be related to seizures, ie, if you have a pre-existing history of seizure disorder. As well, side effects were noted more with the SR (sustained-release) form as opposed to the regular formula. Restlessness and sleep disturbance were reported in some cases, but resolved on their own within a few weeks.

Some other classes of antidepressants, in particular the tricyclics, such as amitryptilline, imiprimine and doxepin, are notorious for causing significant weight gain.

Wellbutrin (bupropion) is a new class of drug, different form the SSRI's like Prozac and Celexa. It is chemically related to Zyban, which is used to help stop smoking. It's possible that Wellbutrin might help stop cravings.

As with all of the antidepressants, they take a few weeks to be fully effective. It's hard when you're feeling depressed ... you just want to feel better, and it takes soooooooooo long.

Here's a really good site for looking up information on ANY drug ...Healthtrack Pharmacy . Just type in the drug name, and away you go.

Hope this is helpful, and hope you're feeling better soon. ..

Thumbs up Depression.com

While scouring the web for drug info. about the Wellbutrin, I came across an excellent site, Depression.com. Very well laid out, lots of useful information, and it's actually readable. Good articles on the different types of depression, including SAD, and children, who are too often overlooked. There's also a section on non-drug and self-help treatments, including herbs, nutritional supplements, and exercise.

Here's the link to the Index page

Hope there's something useful for you!! ..
