Default Can people with normal blood glucose be diabetic?

According to Dr Joseph Kraft MD, "The pathology of diabetes occurs in those with normal blood sugars. There are far too many who are told, “Don’t worry, your fasting blood sugars are normal.” The earliest diagnosis of prediabetes is hyperinsulin, type 2 diabetes identified by insulin assays with normal glucose tolerance. With early diagnosis, the diabetes epidemic can be arrested and then reversed."

Ivor Cummins at the Fat Emperor Blog did aan excellent job summarizing Dr Kraft's work.

I've had both a doctor, and an RN say there is really no such thing as 'pre-diabetes'. Just 'pre- diagnosis-level'. Blood sugar does not run on the higher end of normal for a true non-diabetic.

Default There is NO pre cancer, or Pre stroke

I was reading somewhere and the discussion was "..there is NO pre-stroke, or pre-cancer (or pre-pregnancy for that matter) in our mindset….so why accept pre diabetes? "(Might have been Jack Challem's book Stop Prediabetes Now)

The sloppiness of the medical profession who keep saying (when your BG is >100) "you dont have diabetes:… is pulling wool over their own eyes and harming every single patient who should have some clue, from so called 'trusted medical professionals', to save their own health or at least an alert to which they can take action, or not.

If you look at the work of Dr Fung, he says that the true mechanism of type two diabetes is insulin resistance, and that to truly monitor progression we should look at insulin levels as well as BG.

Looking at it from that perspective, the severe insulin resistance and reactive hypoglycaemia that I suffered from for years was the beginning of diabetes, even though my BG were very low (after meals they were often shockingly low).

If we simply measure by BG then yes the patient reaches a point when they simply can't produce enough insulin to counteract resistance, and so BG will then increase. But in reality this is just a stage in the middle of the disease. The disease really starts when insulin levels begin to rise, indicating resistance.

I expect this type of thinking would be controversial if implemented, with half of the people not wanting to believe that actually they do have diabetes, and the other half grateful to be able to catch the disease before it progressed to high BG.

Agree that it is insulin resistance rather than BG, so some unhealthy results may be missed, but BG is the best we've got for now to easily monitor at home. Just based on those numbers though, the article you may remember is:
