Default Whole 30 beginning today!

Yup! I was tossing around the idea of starting. Then trying to think when should I start and then decided not to hesitate. Just jump right in the darn thing.

I've got a Thai restaurant date coming up though. I have to figure out what I can eat there. Curry without rice isn't bad, although it does contain a little palm sugar.

Whoa! Cauliflower hummus? I'm going to be all over that! I love my Thai omelet with hummus.

I made a few mistakes on day one, like chewing gum and sucking on mints. Oops! It took me most of the day to even realize it.

Threw away all my dairy products.

I had a flax cracker I made myself. Technically I think they'd call that SWYPO (sex with your pants on), but it wasn't that sexy. Kind of boring without butter.

I need to make some ghee.

Good luck! There are many Whole 30 Recipe websites, or a sub-set. Nom Nom Paleo has Whole 30 ones with an Asian twist. They are a separate listing on her App, and Pinterest.

Are you still doing resistant starch then? I am Half-listening to Robb Wolf podcast with Chris Kresser and it starts off with Robb's positive experiment with it, how Chris uses it with clients, improvements in blood sugar, etc

I hadn't restarted it. Do those guys give any guidelines for taking it?

I've gained 1.5 pounds on my Whole 30 so far. Maybe due to exercise and water retention. **sigh**

Yes, but that is why I wrote "half" listening. When Chris Kresser gets wound up about this or that gut microbe or different techniques using starch, or green bananas or plantain chips... I tune out a bit

Nancy, Livin la Vida LC, new podcast #763, Chris K and Laura S. on Five problems caused by LC and what to do about them.
At 45 minutes, he starts in on gut microbiota, and recommends Bob's potato starch amounts and other items. Laura adds some cautions at around 50 min. questioning the whole gut bacteria theory.

Whole30 is best just to clean up your diet, not necessarily for weight loss. Many people gain weight on it.

Heck, all last year was a Starch Experiment and I decided I must be a Mutant. All it did was help put on ten pounds I didn't want back!

Then, I read Death by Food Pyramid, and it was all explained. Some people have saliva enzymes that work the starch into useful blocks, and Chris must be one of these. But some people have very few of these enzymes, and all the starch does is turn into blood sugar; and that would be ME. So yes, I am a mutant... and so is he

Great book! Highly recommended!

So, halfway through the Whole 30 now and it has become really easy. I do find myself noshing for dinner at times. Like last night I had a hard-boiled egg and a handful of blueberries for dinner. I rather liked feeling not-hungry but also not weighted down by a meal.

I've only had one day of intense craving for a diet soda. Not even a full day, just an hour or so.

Food tastes really good to me. My steamed eggs taste wonderful. Homemade flax crackers with almond butter are really great. Not having hyper-stimulated taste buds is a good thing.

Update:

I was hoping I'd feel utterly marvelous, but I don't. I feel pretty much like I always do, but extra-tired because I also gave up taking my anti-histamines (Unisom, etc) at bed time and I'm waking up at 2-3 and having a hard time going back to sleep.

My aches and pains aren't any better. No amazing energy. No weight loss.

I'm going to finish it out, but I don't think making the tiny adjustments in my diet for the Whole 30 has really netted me any gains I can feel or see. It is certainly worth trying though.

Hey, you had to know!

A lot of these things are awfully subtle. I think it's very admirable of you to stick it out the "whole 30" (sorry couldn't resist because who knows?

You might only notice something when you add it back in after a stretch without.
