Default I lose three pounds on Phase 1

I lost three pounds on Phase 1! I wish it was more, but I was on my period for a major part of P1. I've lost more before, so why haven't I lost that much this time around? Is it because I added exercise from day 1 this time around?

First off, congrats on the loss!
There are several factors to consider, retaining water from period, dehydration, and of course the second time around you Never lose the big amounts that you did the first time around. Same here for me. the first time I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks, this time it was 10lbs, but no period and plenty of water and 100% on track with eating is what helped me. I have always been exercising from day 1 (walking) and I dont feel the desire at the moment to do anything else. Please dont be discouraged, it will continue to drop, they keep saying the slower it comes off the LONGER you will keep it off.
Good luck, you should be proud of yourself!

-3 lbs is still -3 lbs ....you'll see more loss as long as you do not veer off plan.

I didn't lose a lot at first either but I did get into a good rate of loss as I went through it. I ended up losing an average of 1.5 lbs a week.

Have you been eating any foods that are extra high in sodium?

OK, good!
Please do tell me what foods you have been eating though.
Cheese is high in salt as are processed meats.
Canned foods too.

Default Hey Judy

I had canned pink salmon four times during the two weeks. During the two weeks, I ate beans, fish, veggie soup, stew, scrambled eggs, and drank milk and water.

Are you eating all your veggies too? Are you eating according to the meal plan guide?
How much milk? How much water? Was the veggie soup homemade or from a can?
I tried to respond to your PM but your inbox is full and wouldn't accept my reply.

Oh I'm sorry, Judy, let me clear it out! I ate the soups from scratch. I mean, I made them. I drank one cup of milk a day and eight glasses of water.

Make sure that you are eating all your veggie servings and you may need a bit more than 8 glasses of water daily, up to 100 ozs per day.
How much protein? Did you weigh it or eyeball it?

SBD Meal Plan Chart
How To Adapt Your Meal Plan- Phase I

The South Beach Diet? is designed so that you can easily swap meals and ingredients. If you don't like eggs for breakfast, have low-fat cottage cheese or lean meat instead. Not a fish lover? Then choose lean beef or poultry. In Phase 1 of the diet, you can eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like, plus fats like olive oil. Fruit and starches aren't allowed until Phase 2. Here's a look at some general eating guidelines. For specific food choices, check out the Phase 1 Foods to Enjoy & Avoid list.

BREAKFAST
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 2 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 1/2 cup or 6-8 oz. tomato or vegetable juice.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 tsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine, or oil (optional)

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

LUNCH
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

DINNER
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables:Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

DESSERT / EVENING SNACK
Desserts are optional. Enjoy some of your Sweet Treat allowance, a dessert, or any of the snack choices.

SWEET TREATS
Sweet Treats are products that contain sugar alcohols. You can enjoy them throughout the day to satisfy your sweet tooth ? just limit yourself to roughly 75 calories worth per day to avoid any GI distress.
See a list of Sweet Treat options here

BEVERAGES
Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free drinks are not limited. You can enjoy caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added, but limit to 1 - 2 servings per day.

Veggies are a very important apsect of being successful on South Beach....if you are not eating them daily, then you are not doing SB.
