I received an activity tracker "Insight Report" from Garmin yesterday indicating that I am getting more steps in this month than 99% of the others in my age group. Adding jogging and workouts on the elliptical to my routine have really bumped up the step count in the same amount of 'workout' time. I'm feeling pretty darn fit and the moment - all ready for that 10K in 3 weeks.

My youngest daughter is home from spring break and has joined me at the gym for my last two workouts. We've gotten a little competitive. She doesn't want her 53 dad to outpace her like I did last year. But I'm working hard because I'm shooting for a faster time than last year (10K in under 1 hour). So Kel is putting a long more effort into preparation than she did last year. On Saturday I still beat her in a 5K on gym treadmills. Last night she beat me in distance for the same 45 minutes on the elliptical. The friendly completion is neck & neck. The 10K is less than 3 weeks away.

Who wants it more, you or Kel? Sounds like celebrating is in order whoever comes out ahead.

I think I do. I want a better time than the 71 minutes I did last year and I'm training hard. Kel finished in 82 minutes and wants to do better this year, too. She is working harder for it so I think she will. She would like to beat me and has said as much. She said that if I am in her sights near the end, then I'm going to lose. We will see. That's why they call it a race.

I remember years ago when all of my preteen girls were on the neighborhood swim team. In those days, weighing 350 pounds give or take, swimming was something I could still do with my kids. I remember them challenging me to a race across the pool one day. I expected to win, but they creamed me. It wasn't even close and I was so out of breath that I never did it again. I never imagined that I'd be going with my kids to workout at a gym. Oh how times have changed.
