Talking Hello Everyone!

I'm new here...wanted to drop a big "HELLO". I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 3 years ago....my own doing sadly! I was a personal trainer/ bikini model...and was taking an E/C/A stack (ephedrine/caffiene/ asprin) and tripled the dose before an upcoming competetion...I feel very ill. I ended up in ICU were I spent 6 long weeks recovering (I had liver and kidney failure and was close to death) the outcome health wise was I burnt out my thyroid. I don't exppect any sypathy since I did cause this to myself. I just wanted to be open and honest as to how I got it.

I went from 110 lbs (which I have always weighed) to 150 pounds in the 6 weeks I was hospitalized. It was devastating to say the least...I feel into a major depression for 6 months...wouldn't even leave my house. I was put on Eltroxin 100 mcg and have never had my dose changed which is frustrating as hell since I still have several symptoms. I have managed to get my weight down to 135 but it won't budge. My doctor is a complete A-hole (sorry for the language) and has told me to 'accept' it...
I told him this was hard for me to do since I was a model before and a great personal trainer (I'm not sure about you guys but I want a trainer who looks good so I know they know what they are doing?) and he flat out told me "well I guess a career change is in order then?" Ok that really ticked me off!!!

I was in office last week...and told him I just don't feel great....he starts getting huffy with me saying my blood work is fine...I'm in the low scale of normal and that he won't up my meds. So I make an appointment to see the other doctor he shares his office with (I should mention these docs are GP's) he tells me yes he can up my meds...I need some more blood work first. Ok no problem I'm thinking. I get my blood work done...go back and the doctor I want to see is away for 2 weeks so I have to see my original doctor...shoot! He starts freaking at me for going to this other doctor...but ends up giving me a perscription for 30 days of Synthroid 112 mcg. He says I need more blood work in 30 days...he thinks this will put me into HypOthyroidism????

He won't refer me to a Endo which ticks me off....I feel like I need to put on 100 lbs before anyone starts helping me.

Yes I'm depressed...I want my old life back...badly!

I'm doing Atkins. I train with weights 6 days a week and do sprinting intervals 2 days a week...and go for an hour long brisk walk every night....the weight isn't budging????

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a suggestion, read the Schwarzbein Principle II (read second book not the first). It talkes of thyroid disorders and healing your adrenal glands. This may make more sense for you since you have these problems. You cannot go to an Endo unless your GP refers you? That stinks you must have a HMO.

Take care. Good luck.

Sadly in Canada you can't see any specialists unless you have a 'note' or referral from your GP....sucks big time! I will for sure check out that book....the thyroid and adrenal glands make things so difficult when trying to lose weight...very frustrating. I think what frustrates me the most is the little ammount of research done to find a way to help us suffering with it. Yes they put us on meds...but what about finding a methos that would repair the thyroid?
