Default If you DO eat someting carb-y...

what is the rule of thumb for counter-acting the ill-effects. My sister has been LCing for about 2 months now and is going to New Orleans for her 25th anniversary. The ONLY thing off-plan she wants to have is a beignet, which this one place is world renowned for. She probably won't even eat a whole one, but knowing that she is going to eat at least some, what, if anything, can she do to make sure she gets the least amount of ill effects. I thought that I'd read that you should eat a protein along with the carb, but I'm not entirely sure that's right.

Protein AND fat. That shouldn't be a problem.

For special occassions like that I use the '3 bite rule'.....even 3 big bites but it does satisfy without too much damage.

Do what you have to do, but get right back on track and don't let it be a deal breaker

Not sure what you mean here. She should eat protein and fat along with it?

Also, I just noticed that this post was "moved." I'm sure I put it under the "Atkins" category. Anyone know why that would happen?

Absolutely.

I've discovered than when I "buffer" carbs with protein and fat, it does not have the blood sugar impact of that food eaten in isolation. Moderate the blood sugar impact, and we lower the insulin hit. Insulin is what makes us fat!

(Vastly simplified, of course.)

But one of my maintenance tricks is to always eat carbs as part of a meal. I won't just snack on a sweet potato; I will put it in my pot roast, and eat it with a big pat of butter.

Works!

I'd drink a lot of water too, esp. before my planned indulgence...I might want less of it that way!
