Here is Chris beat cancer part two. Get out your notebooks. ANd be sitting down.

Many nuggets. The bottom line is stop poisoning our bodies, eat high quality foods, and re-look at live style.

While some info is incorrect, aka doesnt match my current knowledge like amount of calories consumed, look for what we can change.

Been trying chia seeds in a couple ways.

Using a quart jar add chia and stir in water. How much water depends on your likeing. Sometimes thick or sometimes quit watery--- the textures are quite different.

I do like mixing in a crystal light berry flavor.

Put in fridge. Enough for a couple days.

To serve, mix with kefir, HWC, yogurt, buttermilk, kombucha or sour cream. I found a cultured sour cream and it lends a different flavor. Kefir is much prefered, but even kombucha makes it zingy

Generally: chia, and a cultured product and HWC is the minimum.

Concerned about adding too much mercury to my kids diets. Scared that too much mercury is in fillings. ANd worry that the amount of fish recommended is decreasing because of the mercury.

Only buying sardines but worry about the souces. This is a tricky business.

Sardines are a terrific source of brain healthy nutrients but the heavy metials and fat-soluable chemicals is worrysome.

How much is safe to eat?

looking for info-----

Packed in Water. Fish packed in water may be best avoided. They are not comparable in quality to fish packed in oil, but I would rather you buy sardines in water than a cheap unhealthy oil like soybean or canola oil.

Packed in Oil. The best sardines are packed in olive oil. They are a better quality that don’t need sauces or spices to mask flaws. If the fish are packed in oil, be sure it’s either olive oil or fish oil. SKIP the fish packed in canola or other inflammatory omega-6 oil. This defeats the whole purpose of eating sardines – the omega-3! Heavier oils (like soybean oil) are too stable and won’t hold onto the flavor, especially with the smoked varieties.

Have never seen fish packed in oo.

Been buying packed in water to avoid the really bad veg oils. Cheap at $1 a can at discount store.

Would like to know how much mercury and other hazards are in these fish.....

I read a while back that the smaller the fish (bottom of food chain) the lowest percentage of mercury, the larger the fish (top of the food chain) the more mercury.

One article talked about water packed sardines in countries with no clean water!

The problem is that even the small fish have mercury because our oceans are so polluted. Im not sure it is safe to eat any of these fish when I have learned what mercury an do to some people who are sensitive.

Hope to find very specific studies on level of contaminants in " sardines".

What did the article say about the water, if you remember. Was it bacteria or was it heavy metal water, or other?

This page on salmon explains well why I only buy wild salmon. Yes, it is a few more dollars a pound, but the nutritional value is far better. One is the omega 3: omega 6 are in great proportion. ANd the natural amount of Vitamin D is remarkable.

What I didnt know was the following. All the more reason to kwwp buying wild caught Alaskan salmon.

Quote:

Selecting Wild Salmon Helps to Save Wild Salmon

The Alaskan salmon fishing industry is the chief economic force behind the preservation of wild Salmon. But in recent years it has been devastated by competition from the world-wide proliferation of cheap, nutritionally inferior, environmentally destructive farmed salmon.

As paradoxical as it may seem, to save wild salmon it helps to choose it over farmed salmon products.

I think some of what I read was on NOAA.

The question about being canned in contaminated water,(another source) think of countries with no sanitary sewage (cesspools), countries that drain raw sewage into their own water sources like rivers, ditches and streams. It would be nice to think of it being packed in nice clean spring water. We are very advanced in this country to have fairly clean running water in most places.

I looked at all of our sardines and there were a few but they all came from different places.
