Default Low Carb USA, San Diego, July 29th

Following on the success of low carb conferences in South Africa, Vail etc., the organizers of Low Carb USA are actively advertising the upcoming one in San Diego, including this new Press Release. Expecting 900 attendees.

Quote:
Low Carb USA Asks "Is Our Government's Dietary Advice Making Us Fatter and Sicker?"

Evidence is growing that the US government's dietary advice over the past 40 years has been making people fatter and sicker. Epidemics of diet-related illnesses including Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes have, for decades, caused unnecessary suffering and increased mortality while contributing to skyrocketing healthcare costs.

SAN DIEGO, June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/

-- Next month, some of the world's top medical and scientific minds will gather at Low Carb San Diego 2016 to look at why and how that has happened, and how it can be stopped.

Low Carb USA, an organization focused on dietary education and support, is hosting 25 of the world's leading authorities to discuss low-carbohydrate eating at the largest scientific conference of its kind to date at the Westin Gaslamp Hotel in Downtown San Diego from July 29 - July 31 2016. Here they will present clinical research and best evidence to date addressing nutrition as an approach to treat and prevent serious disease, and to highlight the catastrophic failure of the current USDA-HHS dietary guidelines to fight obesity and diabetes in America.

On the first day, internationally renowned low-carb expert and Director of the Duke Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, Dr. Eric Westman, Chief Medical Officer of HEAL Diabetes & Medical Weight loss (healclinics.com) and Adapt Your Life, Inc. (adaptyourlife.com), will talk on 'A Scientific Basis and Clinical Experience of Using LCHF for Diabetes'. Dr. Dave Dikeman will follow with a talk on 'How to Avoid the Complications of Type 1 Diabetes Using a Low Carb Diet'. (Dr Westman Image attached)

Other experts in the Speaker Lineup include Gary Taubes, Dr, Michael Eades, Dr. Jeff Volek, Dr. Dominic D'Agostino, Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Jeffry Gerber and chemical engineer, Ivor Cummins.

Other topics on the table will be the role of a low-carb diet in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease, dementia diseases such as Alzheimer's, cancer as well as improving performance of athletes engaging in high intensity exercise as well as endurance events.

This conference follows on the heels of the so-called "fat wars" that have broken out in the scientific community in the UK, following publication of a report by the UK National Obesity Forum, in collaboration with the newly established Public Health Collaboration. The report states that official UK dietary guidelines, that are based on US guidelines, and that emphasize low-fat, high-carb eating have been making people fat and sick. The report also says that science of food and nutrition advice to the public has been "corrupted by commercial influences."

Over 900 people are expected to attend Low Carb San Diego event which is to be held in the main ballroom of the Westin Gaslamp Hotel in Downtown San Diego.

For healthcare professionals, application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

When I started eating low carb I was doing it for personal reasons, to improve my health. I didn't know I was joining a political movement but I now I know differently. As most of us here realize, the politics of nutrition are brutal and to me horrifying. There are certainly signs that the tide is turning, like this San Diego conference. It is heartening to see Dr Westman and others getting the recognition they deserve.

Here, here, Jean!

For those who frequent the IDM blog, Dr. Fung provides a nice promo of the conference. There's also a $100 discount code, "JASON".

Would love to have the time to attend.

The conference was great, the speakers all well-informed, and I'm happy I went. This was a far cry from usual medical conferences I attend, where those around me are lamenting the high cholesterol of their patients, while themselves snacking on low-fat sugary yogurt, chips, candy, and 'continental breakfast.' In San Diego it was usual to see those around me snacking on hard boiled eggs or scooping avocado with a spoon...or skipping meals because they were fasting.

I believe the DietDoctor team filmed the talks, in the meantime, Ivor Cummins has started to post his interviews, good one with Dom D'Agastino on cancer:

DietDoctor has posted the first of ALL the talks at San Diego LC conference, Keto-Adaptation by Dr Volek.

Actually, the first 35 minutes is about Keto-Adaptation on General Health...a truly excellent overview of LCKetogenic diets, studies of using Keto for many diseases, how they work (around 30 minutes why eating Saturated Fats reduces saturated fats in the body). This talk is not just about elite endurance athletes as some of his are. Around 44 minutes, he starts going through the fascinating details of his recent FASTER study.

Dr Volek has polished his on-stage presentation plus it appears the conference had TelePrompTers and he was miked, it was the first of many professionally videoed talks by DietDoctor's team.

If you don't have a membership yet, this talk and others is a good reason to join. They will be posting them one by one as finish editing. $9 in lieu of an expensive conference in San Diego.

He also has a link to sign up for next year's LC conference.

Low Carb Breckinridge is offering tickets to watch an on-line streaming of all 37 speakers for $20. Details: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/low...ets-31988888627

More on the event Feb 24, believe there are still tickets: http://denversdietdoctor.com/low-ca...ckenridge-2017/

If you can wait, most of these talks will eventually be on DietDoctor, or as an audio podcast from Jimmy Moore, but hadn't seen this option before.

There is also a second West Palm Beach, FL conference in January 19-21 under Events.
