I got in to see gyno thats hip to PCOS, I'm having exploratory surgery/combined with removal of my 3rd polyp this year. When I told her about my periods she said "oh there's something wrong". Noone has ever told me that before. My periods are regular a little spotting the day before and after but the actual period is about a day long and really light. When I get really stressed out it is just spotting, the almost nonperiod has gone on for up to 9 months at a time. I even got pregnany with that cycle. I hope whatever happens I won't end up with some nuisance period, I like the barely there one.

Sorry if this is tmi: I've been sticking to LC a lot better then I usually do and I haven't had any upper lip, chin or breast hair.

HI, good to hear! That is what I have read other places....(the hair / sugar)....have you had your hormones tested? That might be the issue behind your period problems...do you take metformin? One woman I know didn't get her period for a year, but got it after taking metformin, and was pregnant within a month...where are your polyps? uterine? ovarian (do they exist? not TMI for me!

Hi there,
Sorry it's been so long; life interfering with... my LIFE!
TMI is a myth, especially when discussing these kind of issues.
PCOS can manifest with short or non-existant periods, or it can be like my sister and myself; horrendous Niagara Falls periods that don't stop.
get them to check your free testosterone, insulin, T3 & T4 Thyroid, Glucose Tolerence and iron.
And remember; Just because you're in the 'normal' range, high or low can be just as bad as out.
Good luck and let us know how it goes please!

HI, I went to an osteopath, who put me on thyroid (Armour). It has helped so much! AS you mention, she did more sensitive testing. I was also anemic (although not according to more 'traditional' testing). Iron supplements help. I was SO exhausted a few months ago, doing much better now. Lost a few pounds on gluten-free, yeast-free - well, working on that!

I recently found wrongdiagnosis.com and that is where I discovered PCOS. I have several symptoms that indicate I might have it. My hubby and I are trying to conceive. We have already been through a miscarriage. I started cutting carbs when I was 18 because I noticed that I felt better. I was diagnosed bipolar the same year. My mood swings are rapid throughout a day so it seems more likely to be my blood sugar than mental illness. I have never had two consecutive periods naturally. I am currently not ovulating or menstruating. My Dr. recently tested my hormones and today I had an ultrasound. I am anxiously waiting to hear results. PCOS scares me but not knowing what is wrong scares me more. I am hoping for a concrete diagnosis so that I have an answer to my symptoms.

Blood sugar can definitely give you ups and downs. I'd love to know what your blood tests re: hormones revealed. I use bio-identical natural progesterone. Also, just found this:

http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/nac.html

PCOS and NAC

''A recent study(1) evaluated the effect of NAC on insulin secretion and insulin resistance in 6 lean and 31 obese women women with polycystic ovary syndrome. They took 1.8 grams of NAC daily for 5-6 weeks. A dose of 3 grams per day was arbitrarily chosen for the massively obese. Six of the 31 obese patients were treated with placebo.

Those treated with NAC had a reduction of their insulin resistance and a significant fall in testosterone levels.

Although this is a small study, it suggests that NAC can play a role in improving your insulin sensitivity. Many of you are taking metformin for the same purpose. Improved insulin sensitivity is crucial to reversing PCOS. ''
