Default Tell me if low carb eating can lower your LDL, please.

I've been following a low carb diet, and the doctor tells me he would still like to see my LDL a little lower than last time.

I've only been at this (low carb) a couple of months. But I am hoping my LDL will come into normal limits while I'm on it.

Anyone have their cholesterol (lipid profile) get a lot better with this type of diet? Especially LDL?

"Normal limits" as defined by who?

Most doctors, as you'll see people type here over and over, don't know squat about cholesterol except what the treatment guidelines tell them and that is that tc should be under 200, etc. and ldl under, what, 130, for healthy people with "no risk" (someone correct me if wrong, don't quote me).

I would read the sticky at the top of this forum called "why did your LDL go up on low-carb" -not that everyone's does- some people's ldl does go down but as you will see what matters is the TYPE of ldl. And don't be forced onto drugs against your judgement-see post #8 in that thread.

Thanks, Ilikemice.

I guess according to my doctor, lol, who thinks it should be lower. He said this after asking me about family history and finding out that both of my parents have had heart attacks, and my mother had a bypass.

I do have quite a bit of risk. I'm 56, menopausal, fat, bad lipid profile, sometimes have a slightly elevated BP (not too often), have family hx. of heart and diabetes, I myself was a gestational diabetic......so I'm a walking poster child for metabolic syndrome.

I just want to do what's healthiest for me, and losing weight is one of them, but I don't want to make something else worse in the meantime.

I will check out the posts you mentioned. Thank you.
