ME!
In early May, the doc looked at my bloodwork and suggested a statin. I refused (she was not happy) and I said I'd do my homework and be back in four months. If my numbers weren't better, I'd take the statin. Her advice: eat low fat and exercise more.
I did my homework, and figured, despite what the doc had said, that low carb would do me more good than low fat. Then I joined this forum, and the support has been great. cnmlisa even offered to arm me to "hunt bear" if the doc brought up statins again.
Yesterday I went back to the doc for my Sept bloodwork results. I didn't write the results down, stupid me, but here's the bottom line --
o blood pressure down dramatically
o hdl up more than 10%
o tc/hdl ratio <5, down from 5.7
o fasting blood sugar normal
And I'm now in the cvd low risk category.
I've also lost weight, but that wasn't the immediate object of the exercise. I didn't do a before weight, so I have no idea how much. I have, however, been doing alterations on a lot of my clothes -- at least a full size worth.
No more talk of statins or low fat from my friend the doctor. (cnmlisa, I know how much you wanted to hunt bear ... sorry!). Just "do what you've been doing" and an appointment in six months.
This is good.
