Default Dreamfields pasta - down to 13.5 oz from 16 oz

Aloha ya'll,

Perhaps this has already been discussed. Depending upon the LC product and pricing, I may buy enough of something to last me 6 months. I was preparing to boil a box of Dreamfield's spaghetti and noticed that I didn't have quite as much as I thought I should. I just happened to notice the labeling stated 13.5 ounces. I also happened to have a couple of boxes I bought about 6 months ago, pulled one out and sure enough, it had 16 ounces. Almost 25% less. I don't feel quite as great as I did about the 20+ boxes I bought on sale this past week. It seemed the lowest price yet and If I sit down and calcluate, I paid about 12.5 cents last time, this time 12.29 cents per ounce.

At least if Dreamfields goes out of business (heaven forbid, but we'll had favorite products lost due to businesses closing), I'll be stocked for awhile!!!!!!

Happy LCing

Funny, they did kinda the same thing with the carbqiuck by DCing the 5lb boxes and keeping the 3lb.

Probably the economy, and being able to charge more per ounce for the smaller quantities. No money to be made in bulk.

This is not just happening with LC products too....

Product shrink is happening to several products, even cheese. The munster I buy went from 12 oz to 10 oz.

Look at it this way, maybe the public will start eating less.... maybe...

Its still the only LC pasta I like, so I'd buy it regardless. I lose fine with it, too, and it dosn't cause cravings in me.

I had a moment of weakness and HAD to have mac n cheese. My neighbors had given me a box of Dreamfields. I made a mini mac n cheese(I used 3 oz) and ate it in 2 sittings, and it threw me out of ketosis, and then I craved fruit really bad and ate frozen peaches and blueberries. Don't get me wrong, it was DELICIOUS!! but I hear later you cannot cook it "twice" like with mac n cheese or lasagna. What's the point of mac n cheese if you cant make it all crunchy bubbly cheesey crispy gooey melty brown yummy on top? I still have the rest of the box. I guess I could eat it after I have climbed up a few more rungs. I am still pretty new at Atkins and only eat 20-25 carbs a day. I dream about mac n cheese..Instead of counting sheep I count little ramikins of crunchy bubbly cheesey crispy gooey melty brown yummy on top mac n cheese.

Regarding your Dreamfields experience. I decided not to use Dreamfields until I had lost my weight and I made this pasta an occassional part of my maintenance diet. When I make Dreamfields, I load up my sauce with extra, sometimes double the protein or meat.

I use a stovetop mac 'n cheese recipe based on Cook's Illustrated recipe. I'm very happy with the recipe. Not the same as baked mac n cheese, but very satisfying.

Good luck!!!

I agree with you, I'll still be buying (in bulk when on sale lol). It was just that when I made this first box at a reduced volume, I ended up with less than I planned for. I'll just have to adjust recipes or open two boxes in the future. :-)

You are absolutely right. Its not just LC products. Its a lesson learned for me to be more observant when shopping. I'll keep buy the stuff as its been great, I'll just look at the labels closer!

Be sure to buy dried bay leaves, and scatter them in your cabinets- keeps the little creepy mealy bugs at bay. They come in with boxes of cereals and pasta from the supermarkets.

Nothing as sickening as opeining a box of pasta, dropping in the boiling water an seeing those tiny brown bugs floating by.

I am very mad at Dreamfields for doing this, I don't buy nearly as much as I used to. So there.

I noticed the same thing. I made spaghetti about a week ago and I always portion out the noodles. I kept thinking, doesn't it usually make a lot more than this. Then my family complained about there being a lot less, too. I didn't have an old box, so I couldn't compare, but I thought the old size was the standard 16 oz. So, now it's 13.5. Bummer! But I guess it will help with portion control. LOL.

I thought I was going nuts last night when I made Dreamfields spaghetti. One box only gave me 4 of my usual serving sizes. Most of the time we have enough leftover for lunch the next day. I thought we had just eaten more than we usually do. I feel better now.
