Jeanette - I'm so happy to see that you've found YOUR PATH... Focusing on staying on plan and not worrying about the numbers! You are doing beautifully!!!! Be aware that, after the initial drop in weight, you WILL start having plateaus where your body will go for varying lengths of time with no "apparent' weight loss. Do NOT let the plateaus frustrate you. I am convinced that when the numbers temporarily stop falling, that is the period of time when the body is consolidating its losses, reshaping itself and getting healthier. During plateaus, I believe our bodies are building muscle and, since muscle is denser than fat, weight loss SEEMS to stall. But FAT loss is still going on and maybe even happening at an accelerated rate! Looking back over my own journey over the past 20 months, I realize that it was almost always during an extended plateau-period that I would notice that this, that, or another article of clothing had gotten way too big for me to wear anymore! It was also during plateaus that I would begin to notice that I had more energy and actually WANTED to go do some of the more active things that I hadn't done in years. Like starting to go for walks, and then later on starting to go out dancing again on a regular basis, and then this summer when my weight was stuck at 179 for months on end I decided I felt like going lap swimming (something I hadn't done since college) and amazed myself with how quickly I was able to get back up to swimming a full mile! Embrace the plateaus and watch for NSVs! You will see them! And eventually the scales will start moving downward again.
Hothunt - Congrats on the New Low and the new decade!
Yes, it was a long time coming...and it may not "stick" right away but it will soon! You cheered me on during my months stuck at 179 so I know you KNOW all about plateaus. LOL!
Tam - what a wonderful month you've had! Nine pounds! Can you bottle whatever you're doing and sell some to the rest of us?
Susan - welcome back from your vacation. I bet you had a blast and were able to enjoy it in ways that would not have been imaginable 40 pounds ago. So much more fun to be able to "go and do" everything instead of having to "wait here on this bench (or in the vehicle) while the rest of the crowd goes and does" because one's feet hurt too much or one is just too tired to keep up. True?
WeezyB - I know what you mean about those 5's and 0's. LOL! There is just SOMETHING psychological about those numbers...it's like there is an invisible rubber sheet over the door and you THINK you've gone thru it only to get bounced back again. Rooting for you to whoosh past this one. Onward and downward!
Dino - HELLO and welcome! I think you're new here since the last time I posted. Glad to have you aboard and it sure looks like you're making steady progress! You've definitely come to the right place for support when you run into the inevitable road bumps ahead. Trust me, we are all past masters of "road bumps."
Sara - you are doing FINE! We all wish for big weight-drops constantly but really, even a couple of pounds per month is not to be sneezed at! And there will be months when it may even appear that NOTHING is happening. Think about it though. If you lose an average of just 3 pounds per month, in one year you'll be 36 pounds lighter than when you started. And the slower you lose it, the more likely it'll be that once the weight is gone, YOU WON'T slide back into eating carbage and gain it all back again. The big whooshes are nice, and may give us the psychological boost to stick with the program, but sticking with it thru the sloooooooooow steady weight loss (and thru the looooong plateaus) is what really teaches one how to do this WOE for LIFE. But, you're a "senior member" of this forum so you already KNOW what I'm talking about, don't you?
More later...hubby is asking for breakfast and, since I've hardly been here to cook for him in weeks, I guess he deserves a little pampering.
