Default Help

Hi there
I am new to Low Carb High Fat diet - today is day 1. I am looking to do 20g of carbs per day. Does anyone have any good tools to use for tracking this and finding out what the carb value is? Also, when I am tracking, is there anything I should be looking out for - fats, proteins etc? I have basically stocked up on vegetables, fish, meat (all sorts), eggs, babybel. I'm just now sure how to limit how much of each I eat? I have half an avocado as 6g of carbs through myfitnesspal. Does anyone else use this? Are there any better sites?
Sorry for all the questions - just keep reading some conflicting views!
Thank you!
JDF40

Welcome and here is a place to start...

https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/

I found it easiest for me to consider everything raw in 100g units - for memorization and calculations.

Get a decent scale that measures in grams. They abound for pennies on Amazon or down at the local store I would imagine. Cheap.

You can also track using "My P.L.A.N.", free on this site - click on the yellow font in the menu bar on the top right of this screen right below where it says "Welcome, JDF40". It counts all carbs but also lists the Possible Effective Carb Count (PECC) which subtracts fiber. You can use its values or enter your own off packaging or from the USDA website. And you can make your own recipes and save foods you commonly eat as "favourites".

I use and like MyFitnessPal, you can configure it for Low Carb.
http://eatfatlosefatblog.com/how-to...ketogenic-diet/ Their Help area answers many questions.

You can track foods but it is also possible to just eat from the list of allowed foods/menus/recipes on DietDocto. Start with the two week challenge...that menu is based on Dr. Westman's 20g carb diet. https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-co...starch_diet.pdf
Easy, no tracking needed if you plan to follow that website.

Welcome, JDF40! I second Janet's recommendation of DietDoctor.com. It's a great place to start with much information for free without having to start a membership. Memberships are also free for the first month. If you frequent this forum and DietDoctor.com, you'll get the majority of information required for a successful start to a LCHF way of eating. Enjoy the journey!
