Default Days Clean From Binge Eating

I had been clean for years following Atkins. I relapsed over Christmas and have been battling emotional and binge eating-eating huge huge amounts of calories in one sitting. I should also add, I only do it in private. No one knows, not my family, not husband (I'd die of embarrassment), no friends. I joined Food Addicts Anonymous, but its only an online forum with slow traffic. I am a food addict, sugar, carbs, wheat. No denying it. I want to keep track of my clean days. Anyone else? I am hoping to see the days add up. Anyone else?

I did have 45 days, now I'm back to zero. Tomorrow will be a do-over. I don't necessarily count the days, I just highlight my desk calendar. The visual is a big motivator.

31 days here (jan 18th)

LC is the only way I can beat the cravings. I'm not fighting it anymore.

May I ask what your trigger was? or just a general, WTF?

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement to all of us. I ate two bowls of captain crunch over the weekend.

I am trying to plan meals in advance. Also, prep what i can when i am home for lunch so i am not grabbing snacks when i get home at 6:30.

I made it thru 2 days. Almost thru day 3

My trigger? I would have many triggers. I found the weekends the worst, still are, it makes me want to eat, then i can't stop. But, what seems to be the "trigger" is the carb creep. I would do well for weeks and weeks, had been clean for years, then i would add some foods back in, up the carbs. Never grains. But, fruit. Fruit, that was always the start.

I would be fine on berries, but add anything else. OMG I ate a 3 lbs bag of cuties. Then I would move on to something else with the logic that its not as bad as cake, or something like that. Then, on to more fruit, then stuff thats not really legal. Canned fruit in heavy syrup. I'd move onto peanut butter, then all was lost. I start on the "fringes" of what is legal, then slowly it busts wide open.

Lc eating is the only way i have been able to control my eating and cravings. I also am a huge emotional eater, stress, sadness, etc. That has helped trigger binging the last couple years. I would eat the legal foods and still not feel "fulfilled" even though i wasn't hungry. I was looking for the comfort.

Hi --
I just found your thread because I just got done binging on whipped cream. I have been off sugar since Jan 2011 (except for ~ 3 days this past Christmas) and I started Atkins on Jan 10, 2012 but have not lost any weight. I think partly because at first I overate for my frame and then when I cut cals I began binging -- started on macadamia nuts, then next day peanuts. Anyway I read another thread where you had posted a year ago. I totally identify with the behavior you describe. I am in such awe of how my husband can moderate sweets. He knows I binge 'cause I confess after the fact, but only once in a while and since I'm not extremely heavy he just thinks it's one of my quirks. He has no idea of what I'm really doing. I hate the sneaking ....

I wish we could figure this out once and for all. I will be more in touch later but have to clean up before he gets home.

I just want to say the part you described in the previous thread about being in bed with your husband and feeling awful about yourself made me feel so sad -- for you and for him. I pray you can conquer this!!!

Marrah

Me too!!

I think I'm at 0 again too..... I tend to over do it on legal foods, and I've been guilty of ODing on whipped cream also. (nod to Marrah)
made a LC cheesecake last night and my daughter and I polished it off this morning. (2 slices last night and 2 this morning).....
I easily justify it because it's low carb, THANK GOD I am strong enough to say no to regular sugar!!!!

I can easily justify anything anymore...... stress in my life, just need _____ (insert food of choice here) to get by/ feel better/cope/deal........

*sigh*

Esam --
I got a boost from "Women Food and God" by Geneen Roth. I am trying to practice mindful eating, sitting at the table, eating only when hungry and eating slowly, paying attention to how things taste. So far day 2 is going well.
I have always resisted the advice to eat that way but now I finally decided to give it a go.

Today I'm at Day 12 clean from Binge Eating.

I can't recommend Geneen Roth enough. Or maybe it's just that I was finally in a good place to hear what she had to say.

I have also come across these youtube videos from Josie Lenore who addresses bingeing, why we do it, how to switch to hunger driven eating with many concrete suggestions.

I really feel that I am finally getting control over food in my life. This past week I've had to go out to dinner a bunch of times and each time I was able to order delicious food and yet not overdo it at all.

I also am making a practice of sitting at my table, using attractive dishes, loading my plate up abundantly and being present when I eat. I can't believe how amazing food tastes when I am really hungry. It feels like I have already reached my goal.

I have been on such a never ending cycle of denial and deprivation and then overeating, stuffing, bingeing. I'm starting to believe that my constant dieting and preoccupation with losing weight is coming to an end and consequently freeing up so much time in my life.

Oh, I just binged over Easter I can't resist when there's so much delicious food around me, especially sweet stuff, I'm such a sugar addict. Hopefully now that the holidays are over I can get back into my regular diet.
