Default Chewing gum

Does chewing gum stimulate your appetite ?
I bought some sugar-free gum.
Was chewing it this morning.

Opinions ?

I wonder if it promotes increased gastric emptying and maybe less of a full feeling.

We will see. I only have lettuce and salad dressing to eat today.
2 eggs and 1/2 bacon, coffee this morning. Forgot my smoothie !

Wonder what the difference would be with gum chewing ... LCHF vs High Carb breakfast ?

Do carbs get crazy fast absorbed if gum promotes rapid gastric emptying ?

hmmm.

I keep some SF Orbit labeled gum in the office and at home. I use it mostly for teeth cleaning once and a while (works!) - I'm kind of anal and spit out the first few mouthfuls of saliva.

Not sure about appetite stimulation as I usually use it AFTER I have eaten. Usage: 1-2 times a week.

NOTE: I use to be a chronic gum chewer - I think it was mostly from habit. I see nothing wrong with it and only have 2 cavities at 53 years. GET YOUR CHEW ON

I feel it does the opposite for me. If I'm feeling peaked and chew some sf gum, I feel better.

I recently started chewing Trident again, a piece or two every day. I'm pretty sure it does help hasten digestion. I know it cleans and helps protect my teeth and has a very mild laxative effect which is good for me. It also keeps my mouth busy and doesn't make me hungry. Quite the opposite. So it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

I found Peelu, a chewing gum with Xylitol as a sweetener. I ordered the Peppermint Blast flavor. I used to chew gum regularly, but not so much anymore. When I do, the Peelu is a good alternative.

Xylitol gives me heartburn BIG time. So i swore off both that and, of course, the wretched maltatol.

Chewing gum helps me not snack. If I feel a want for a snack - especially something not LC - I chew gum. Staves off the cheat.

Maybe it helps get over cravings ?

FWIW, I "survived" my few days of gum here and there.
And have done great with my eating.

Chewing gum stimulates the gastric juices, producing saliva. According to Faddiets.com the saliva that is produced while chewing goes down to the stomach and fools the stomach into thinking there is food to be digested, making you hungrier.

Almost every study about chewing gum is different.

When there is so much disagreement the answer is always the same: it dont matter.

Chewing gum takes too much concentration for me. If I"m at all distracted, three or four chews and it's gone. Not enough chews to draw any conclusions about the benefits of chewing.

A word of warning re fillings and chewing gum... This would mainly apply to the over 50 crowd I suspect.

I found the xylitol sweetened chewing gum quite handy on my way down the weight ladder. It was a convenient distraction if I felt a yearning to eat something sweet, and I just grew used to it. UNTIL... the day came when I felt a big chunk missing outta one of my teeth, and there in the chewy was a piece of filling plus tooth. Ulp. Quite common, according to my dentist, as he fixed my tooth and handed me a whacking great bill.

I don't like to be the harbinger of bad news, but thought some of you might like to know.

Awww Rose. That's a crying shame to have to give up gum like that ... also to find your filling and tooth in your gum! Ugh.
