Default Conventional Wisdom

So, a friend of mine is married to a nurse. She's in her early 60's I believe. Anyway, she has perfect cholesterol. She eats "healthy" whole grains, does the low fat thing and she exercises like a maniac and she has maintained a 20-30 pound weight loss for a number of years.. However, she ended up with an artery blocked at 90% and just had angioplasty. She is an adherer, someone who follows and believes the collective "wisdom" du jour.

I forwarded her husband, my friend, a link to trackyourplaque.com, hope they look at it.

Oh yeah... they just put her on statins. **sigh**

I'd suggest they also read "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick. It still amazes me that they'll put women on statins when they already know that they don't work on women.

This is like my brother in law. He had a mild heart attack inspite of doing everything "right" AND he was taking statins. I said to his wife, "those statins didnt do much good then". Her reply was that he probably would have died had he not been taking them. Its hard to argue about it when their doctors tell them that. My sister in law thinks I'm mad not getting my cholesterol checked and taking statins - she's convinced they're a wonder drug that everyone should be on WTF

They won't listen. I just made an oblique reference to heart scans and trackyourplaque.com hoping that my friend might look into it. I'm not holding my breath.
