Dr. Berg has a video (thanks Arielle) on pressure points and manipulation of the gallbladder to clean out the gunk and make things flow better.

Another problem with low fat is that there's lots of evidence that it's effective--with the disadvantages given--when people or animals follow it/are forced to follow it. Mice in cages, humans in metabolic wards or in places where there wasn't enough available dietary fat to make a major part of the diet on average for the population. But telling people not to eat fat hasn't been very successful. People either don't do it, or compensate by eating more sugary foods, or foods designed one way or another to be hard to stop eating. Or they'll eat low fat pizza, low fat ice cream etc. all week, and then binge on the real thing on the weekend. There's a study showing if you feed rats fake fat potato chips sometimes, full fat type the other, they get fatter than if fed just one, or just the other--maybe the two similar foods don't predict calories from fat very well, so the animals sort of ignore the fat.

If people are to be free, and they should be, what they can be convinced to do of their own free will is as important as relative effectiveness.

THis phenomenon was studied and why the government decided to push pediatrians to recommend 2% fat for children over 2 years old.

I pushed back. Docs didnt like that. I stood my ground. When my kids stayed trim they left me alone.

THEY NEVER councelled dont feed junk food, just ok'd what they were eating ( must list a meal or two) and say change the milk.

( Knowing what I do now, my kids RARELY get milk at all; cheese ok, yogurts ok. Dont get me going on milk. ANd in college I had a computerized mock dairy herd to manage over a 10 year cycle, aka 2 semesters. The antibiotics, the ........stopping.)

It also seems to work for the wrong reasons.

I spent much of the 90s exercising and eating low fat. I believe I was fortunate that I had periodic "lapses of will" and wound up eating fatty foods; unlike the people I knew who were hardcore Pritikin or that other guy who insists on low fat based on one multi-factorial study, I managed to avoid what I think are the health consequences of long-time fat deprivation.

And I did lose weight. Until it stopped working. I think I was burning up carbs from all the workouts, because my weight crept up no matter what from the constant hunger. I was eating too many carbs because I was never satisfied for more than a hour at the most. Which increased my insulin resistance... and my weight.

The prevailing wisdom at the time was "more, harder" but I just couldn't do it.

This studies don't run long enough to pick this up... or the participants can't stick with it long enough.

Studies dont run long enough....

SCientific studies are not designed for use in the real world. APplying studies is the art and practicing of medicine. Appying it to our every day life is with the risk of not enough information.
FOr example, look at the length of time to move from a promising drug on rats/mice to FDA approval to withdrawn from market.

The Framingham Nurses study is long term, decades, and thousands of people tracked. Very good data. But It misses the finer points, and does not connect cause and effect. Well many studies dont connect the cause and effect.

Example: high fat diet and heart attacks. Participants in X study write everything they eat and the amounts for 6 months. 2 have heart attacks, what have they been eating. The info shows high fat diet with the heart attacks. BUT is this the cause? Did anyone think outside the box, and look at other factors like high fats and carbohydrates connected to heart attacks?

Most of us living LC for a long time actually are familiar with this
and with more studies and more studies, the doctors are finally realizing the truth, well some are, that it is the combo of fats and carbs that are the cause.

Dr Atkins lists a number of studies published long ago that showed this; these studies were ignored.

Werebear--- your struggles were NOT your fault. I hope you have made that jump as you have lived this LC journey for a while now. You were a victim of a "diseased" metabolism and misguided egos aka doctors. Not a m atter of will power. You were given WRONG information.

Atkins, and Banting before him, already prooved a maet and fat diet worked.

THese days, with the new generation of supporters, are leading the way to fine tuning this method.

ANd are still fighting against the tide.

( I rarely see a doctor now---wrong information too many times.)

I was worried during my fast that my gall bladder might act out. Had some diarrhea early on -- mostly bile, but no issues now, so I expect it takes more than a week without fat.

Thanks you, Ms Arielle. It's fantastic that Dr. Atkins released his his 2002 book; reading it convinced me, but there is so much more to explore
