I read and seen a couple of stories about very heavy people and there is always a weight where their legs will no longer support them. Guess that must vary. And there comes a point where they can't get out of bed, or even roll over. I simply can not understand how anyone can get there. My only explanation is that somehow food must have become a drug to these people, and to stop eating is like asking a drug addict to stop heroine.

Angeline, I can't understand it either...I got to a point, and said to myself "enough is enough". Not that I have awesome willpower or anything (I really don't) but I realized that my eating was either going to kill me or incapacitate me.

At least drug addicts have methadone. Not that it helps much. *sigh*

Ugh, but if I'm behind the counter and wearing my lab coat, it can be construed as "giving professional advice" unfortuntely.

I really don't see how any court could convict for telling a diabetic he really should stop eating candy But then the USA is a strange place

LOL! Doesn't it sound horrid? I've never tried it so I couldn't tell you.

I was at 265 when my knees started to give. It's been a long time coming though--all those years from ice skating and just being a klutz, because I am. The doctor won't admit to it, but I fell while chasing my son when I weighed a lot a few years back and my leg hurt for a long time. Then a few years later some bozo at the office left boxes of copier paper in the doorway to the copy room so when I come walking through there carrying a computer to the point where I can't see and I go flying through the air the first thing that hits is my sore knee, of course, then my chin smacked the corner of the computer. I didn't even notice I had a gash under my chin until I felt something warm and sticky on my neck. A few years later I couldn't take stairs on that knee. Now that I've lost weight it's better, but it's always *that* knee that give me problems and it is weight related even if it is damaged. I could really use the excuse that I can't walk but then I'd have no money at all. ha ha.

Oh yeah, and brat is a sausage they have here. I'm not a fan of sausages because the animal casing just grosses the heck out of me. The brats I think all have these bad things like nitrates, cornstarch, and sometimes othe things like sugar, brown sugar, etc. I wouldn't call it good low carbing.

At this point, I think the family members that bring the food to them should be charged with abuse! My mother had a family move in beside her a few years ago. There was a young man (son) that must have weighed 450 pounds when they first got there. Soon, you saw the pizza delivery truck there SEVERAL times a day, every day. He had a lot of health problems and they would call for an ambulance. Once, one of the EMTs hurt his back really bad trying to help lift him. They said he weighed 550 pounds by then. After that, they sent 12 people to lift him, so no one got hurt. Sadly, the last time, they had to take out the door because he was too big to go through the door. He died at the hospital.

Once, after my mom watched the ambulance take him away again, she asked his mom why they kept bringing him all that food and she said that food was his only joy and she just couldn't deprive him. She loved him to death!

I disagree. I don't think it is the fault of the overweight people. They can try starving themselves and exercising (the advice they get from most "health experts" on how to lose weight) all they want -- and it will not work.

Who should be charged are the health experts. Because they did not tell these people that they could eat all they want -- they just had to change what they ate.

I asked my mom if my uncle could get a restraining order against his sisters in law, but I think the person involved has to want a restraining order. And he works, he can't be there 24/7. Apparently, my aunt throws a horrible fit, to the point of being verbally abusive. I don't know, I think I'd quit visiting someone like that.. I mean, she went to my other aunt's funeral with a tank of oxygen!

I don't understand.

I read this article the other day on cnet I think and it said that one hospital sent patients who were over 350 pounds to veterinary facilities to get x-rays.

I would about die if that ever happened to me. I would sooner not go and stay sick.

How horrible.
