Default carb difference between maintaining and gaining?

hi, I was thinking today about carbs, so I thought id ask for those that are maintaining do you know your carb level? so what would you say the difference for you in being able to maintain and putting weight on?. Then thought although its carbs some I think of you are going to be able to increase one type of higher carb food occasionally then another, so I was wondering what these were for most of you???

I havent increased them at all. I faced the fact that I can never eat sweet stuff, sugar or flour ever again. I'm still on around 20 carbs a day and happy with that. I never get hungry or feel deprived. I can happily watch those around me eating and drinking, without feeling any cravings or envy. My treat these days is an atkins bar, which I have probably once a month???

I am no longer low-carb while on maintenance. Instead I am counting calories and sticking to low glycemic foods.

I tried that after a good five years of low carbing. We moved to Spain and I thought that I could take advantage of the fruit orchard in our garden there - natural and healthy -making sure I stuck to healthy, low GI fruit/berries. It wasnt long before ice cream and the typically spanish breakfast of "churros" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churro beckoned me and then it was free fall and I gained weight, got the familiar aches, pains, eczema.....

It wasnt until we returned to the UK and I put the brakes on that I went back to low carb - the difference was astounding and theres noway I'll eat carbs again!!!
