Exclamation Was slightly bad today...

A daily meeting that I attend has lunch provided, which I usually avoid, however today there was a huge bowl piled high with those greek-style rice-wrapped-in-leaves-thingies (i.e. the green, oily leaves, w/ a tangy lemony taste to the rice), which I find absolutely *delicious*. The spread was in a sparsely occupied corner outside of the meeting room, so I could potentially make several passes without anybody taking notice.

I ate one.

Was a major struggle to not eat any more. First time I've had rice in months. Still craving them...

Grape leaves are very high in omega-3. I just saw a jar at the store for about $5, couldn't fit it in my budget this time but maybe soon.

I used to make dolmades, they are a lot like cabbage rolls. It seems you could easily stuff them with ground meat and onions, maybe a little fresh mint (which is often used in Greek cooking). I used to simmer them in tomato sauce on low heat with a heavy plate on top to keep the shape, but it's not needed if you roll them tightly (or maybe use toothpicks?). You've inspired me though, I'm going to try making a low carb version soon. Maybe with lemon/olive oil dressing.

Could grated cauliflower (cauli-rice) be used instead of the rice?

I love stuffed vine leaves (middle eastern) aka dolmades (Greek)! That lemony flavour is outrageously good, I wouldn't have stopped at one for sure.

I agree, grated cauliflower could do the trick.. It's the flavour and oiliness of the leaves that wins me over
