Charms, good job! I'm so glad to hear things went well.

These types of events were my biggest dread early on in this WOE, too. Of course, I never had to deal with a spaghetti dinner and no other choices. It came close sometimes, given Italian relatives, but there were always other options that I ate and nobody blinked any eye or asked at all.

Sometimes I have talked about what I was doing at gatherings, but never because people were questioning me. I was just nonchalant about it and ate what I could.

Thanks Ccat! I knew the menu was terrible (spegatti, cheesy bread sticks & corn) so I ate before I left. Then running around & serving cake & helping the kitchen people kept me busy & no one asked why I was not eating

I'm so glad it went well. And, you know, now the people who were working in the kitchen are thinking, "What a nice person! I wonder if she'll be back next time?"

And you know who's thinking, "Why didn't she eat any cake?" NOBODY. Because the only reason they care in the moment is that you are reflecting their own poor choices back to them, and they are momentarily uncomfortable. Hence trying to make YOU uncomfortable.

But later? They're on to the next carby feast.
