Default Keto breath

Hi everyone!

I've been doing Atkins for about a week now and the last few days I've developed that sweet taste in the mouth. From what I've read around the place it's normal, and I'm not overly worried about any sneaky health issues.

My question, is there anyway to get rid of the taste? Or knock it down a few notches? It's there all the time, but not noticeable when I eat or drink. Or will this hang around a bit? I can taste it, but it's not strong enough that others smell it on my breath.

I did Atkins years ago and didn't get this, but this time round I had less carb-detox unpleasantness.

I just keep drinking and for me I eat parsley. Something about the chlorophyll. A friend uses spinach for the same reason.

I did have an issue with keto breath for a while, but it seemed to pass fairly quickly.

I noticed it myself for a few weeks early on, but it resolved itself in the end.

If I recall what I've read from Art & Science correctly, it's a side effect of your body adjusting into ketosis. When your ketone levels first start to ramp up it's a combination of acetoacetate and betahydroxybutyrate (BOHB). The former is chemically similar to acetone and so explains the smelly breath. But once you're fully settled into ketosis the mix becomes more BOHB-oriented, therefore less acetoacetate, therefore less smelly breath.

So it pretty much just takes care of itself over time.
