Smile Hi!

Hi everyone! I just stumbled across this site and decided to join. I'm starting a low-carb healthy way of eating on Feb 13, since our insurance company offers incentive challenges, starting on that day. My husband and I are both doing it, so that will make it easier. I am a total carb addict, and I know it's not good for me. I know everyone's tips will be super helpful! At 58, I need these extra pounds gone!

Welcome! Find a plan if you have not, and if you find one, why not start today instead of waiting till Monday?

You've come to the right place.

Suggested reading:
Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (any used bookstore)
Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It--Gary Taubes (includes a good diet plan in the appendix)

Now you know what to do with your weekend.

Best wishes!

Thank you both! I need to get to the grocery and stock up on low carb items, lots of protein. Spending the weekend looking for good recipes.

Im 50! Welcome.. You can do this and you won't feel deprived if you do it right and eat well!
Enjoy eating and make sure you measure your waist. Sometimes the tape measure moves faster than the scale!
You can do it!

Welcome! My partner and I are doing this together -- it is SUCH a help when you can do it with someone!

Today we stepped on the scale and weighed EXACTLY the same! 171.0!!!! We have a fun "competition" going which I am going to win because I have to have surgery soon.

Good luck and have fun with the food!

Welcome, Wnsummer! I, too am 58. It's possible to still lose weight at this age! 😀

Skip around this forum, and you'll learn a lot about low carb living! I also recommend www.dietdoctor.com. Lots of info, and recipes!

Good luck!

Hello & Welcome!

My tip: Find an LC WOE plan you can live with for life b/c this really is a life-long commitment to healthier eating. I'd avoid those that have LC products as part of their WOE b/c nothing beats eating "real food"!

If you have any questions, ask and someone will have an answer or point you in the right direction!

Wishing both you and your DH much success on your journey to better HEALTH!

Side Note: Imma not sold on the notion that age plays a factor on how difficult it is to lose weight. I lost all my weight when I was 54 and have kept it off for almost 3 years...

I am 57, as well, and have not had trouble losing.

Welcome and will echo the others, find a plan and as bkloots said, one that you can live with for life.

Fwiw, though obviously I flunked maintenance, I lost 216 pounds over a 4 year period, hitting a goal by 60 (actually never got to "goal"..we all forgot the weight of loose skin and the "goal" was no longer realistic. I got too thin).

Now, I plan to be back there by 63-64
