Default Alzheimer's or not?

Hi everyone! Just discovered this forum and am ready to put on another push towards a gorgeous bod!

Had to comment on this memory thing... I've had a really bizarrely poor memory all my life. I recently realized that a good part of my poor memory is really not a memory problem at all... its a matter of having a mind so busy, some things just have to make a detour in my head.

Since this has always been a worry for me, as its caused MAJOR problems in my life... I've done some research on alzheimer's too, and was really glad I did, as its saved me from a great deal of worry.

Here is how you tell the difference between alzheimer's and other memory problems... With alzheimer's, the memory does weird irrational things. For instance, an alzheimer's patient will think that its perfectly okay to put their shoes in the freezer. Its not just forgetting normal things like where you set something down, or dates. In other words, in addition to regular memory loss, there is a disassociation between logical ideas and things.

Jean

Now if you'll excuse me... I need to go construct a stew... beef, potatoes, finely chopped toilet paper, onions, carrots...

Hi Jean, glad you remembered the finely chopped t.p. Another thing, a Dr once told me, if you worry about it, you probably don't have it. One of the first things to go in many cases, (in my MIL, for instance) is that part of your mind that assesses itself, compares itself to other people, or yourself at different times. I'm 58, and I hear my coworkers in their 40s talking about senior moments. I don't think so. Bill

Bill,

I guess that would make sense, wouldn't it? I mean, if you compared yourself to others, or even to yourself, you would realize that the things you're doing aren't quite normal.

Here's another thought... I read in a book this past year that alzheimers can often be treated with large amounts of clear water. Here is the reasoning on that...

We drink a LOT of different things... coffee, tea, milk, soda, alcohol, etc. etc. ... but they are NOT clear water and don't act like clear water in the body. In addition, we do this for years, piled on years. What this doctor was saying is that people with alzheimer's have a water deficiency, and their brain cells are dehydrated. Obviously, if this is so, their would be some brain cell damage over a long period of time. However, this doctor claimed that a good deal of their memory could be revived by drinking the large amounts of water.

Would sure like to hear more about this from someone other than the doctor.

Jean
