Hello!

The following is from today's SBD Daily Dish:

Quote:
Pump Up Your Produce
Eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and certain cancers. Despite this widely known benefit, a report issued in March 2007 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on a 2005 survey, finds that only 32.6 percent of adults are eating fruit two or more times a day and that only 27.2 percent are eating vegetables three or more times a day. These latest results reveal that too few people are meeting even the minimum government recommendation of five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day. This underscores the need for continued interventions that encourage greater consumption of these foods among American adults.

Dr. Agatston's advice: "We need the natural antioxidants and other nutrients found in whole foods like fruits and vegetables that we can't get in vitamins. The Western diet is so loaded with foods high in refined carbs and devoid of nutrient-dense whole fruits and vegetables that despite the fact that Americans are overfed and overweight, we're undernourished, as these highly processed foods offer little to no nutritional value. The South Beach Diet lifestyle is designed to ensure optimal fruit and vegetable consumption so you can meet your nutritional needs without having to measure out each serving of produce."

A good reminder for us all!!

Default South Beach diet

Hi everybody,

After having wandered all over the forum I've decided to start the South Beach diet as from tomorrow (Monday 20th October) onwards to get rid of the last couple of unwanted pounds.

I hope for your good advice and support, which I will be only too happy to give to you in return.

Welcome Back to the beach Liz!!

Good luck....these last few pounds, that you want to lose, are going to be tough ones for you. Which phase do you plan to begin with?

I see SBD as a great plan for maintenance and weight loss. Its balanced and healthy and gives a wide range of food choices.

Thank you, Judy. I'll be starting in phase 1 for 14 days and strictly follow the rules.

I must say that the first phase will be the easiest one for me. Once I taste fruit in phase 2, I have a hard time controlling myself. I'd rather have a pound of apples than just one.

I agree with you that the diet is also very good for maintaining provided one loves meat, fish and eggs. Do you?

I've just admired your pictures. You now look sensational!

Hi Liz - nice to meet you!!!

I'm not happy about "checking in" today. I've been holding at 251 for a few days, and was all ready to record that weight for my weekly check in, but this morning I'm up 3 lbs???? I think I had too much salt yesterday and I'm retaining some water. I'm recording the 254 for now, but if it comes down tomorrow I'm gonna change it!! LOL

Very nice to meet you too, Donnaliz.

I relate to your frustration of weight gaining due to retaining water. Although you know it's temporary, it's quite frustrating.

I hope to see your figures change tomorrow.

Good Morning! I'm moving to the Beach today. I've been doing [mostly] LC for 14 months now and the SBD sounds really appealing. I was getting a little tired of my WOE recently. I'm familiar with SB and was following it a few years ago for a while. That was the first time I really looked into LC and coming from a strict low fat frame of mind, it made a lot of sense. I went grocery shopping yesterday and dug out my SBD book and cookbook.

Welcome to the Beach Serene!
Please be sure to find the "Food Lists and Meal Plan" charts on the first page of my journal. I brought them here from the official SBD web site. They are excellent tools that teach us how to eat this way. Better than the book!

Donnaliz- I have the same issue when I eat too much salty food....our bodies are like a sponge holding onto lots of water. Drink a lot of water today! You'll know its going away when you are peeing all the time!

Sass!
I'm so sorry to see you go again...maybe you should not join the weighins for a while. Just stay as close to on plan as you can.

The following is from today's Daily Om, and good reminder for us all:

Quote:
Awakening to Change
Being Aware is the First Step
Life is a journey comprised of many steps on our personal path that takes us down a winding road of constant evolution. And each day, we are provided with a myriad of opportunities that can allow us to transform into our next best selves. One moment we are presented with an opportunity to react differently when yet another someone in our life rubs us the wrong way; on another day we may find ourselves wanting to walk away from a particular circumstance but are not sure if we can. Eventually, we may find ourselves stuck in a rut that we can never seem to get out of. We may even make the same choices over and over again because we don’t know how to choose otherwise. Rather than moving us forward, our personal paths may take us in a seemingly never-ending circle where our actions and choices lead us nowhere but to where we’ve already been. It is during these moments that awareness can be the first step to change.

Awareness is when we are able to realize what we are doing. We observe ourselves, noticing our reactions, actions, and choices as if we were a detached viewer. Awareness is the first step to change because we can’t make a change unless we are aware that one needs to be made in the first place. We can then begin understanding why we are doing what we are doing. Afterward, it becomes difficult not to change because we are no longer asleep to the truth behind our behaviors. We also begin to realize that, just as much as we are the root source behind the causes for our behaviors, we are also the originator for any changes that we want to happen.

There is a freedom that comes with awareness. Rather than thinking that we are stuck in a repetitive cycle where there is no escape, we begin to see that we very much play a hand in creating our lives. Whether we are aware of them or not, our behaviors and choices are always ours to make. Our past and our present no longer have to dictate our future when we choose to be aware. We are then free to move beyond our old limits, make new choices, and take new actions. With awareness, our paths can’t help but wind us forward in our lives while paving the way for new experiences and new ways of being. It is through awareness that we can continue to consciously evolve.

I know that I can certainly apply this to my food choices daily.
