Default I BLEW IT - need advice

I have been doing really well on Atkins for two weeks. Only lost 4 pounds, but have been sticking to it and showing ketosis on the stick. But today was forgot to eat in the morning, which was a mistake. Around 1 PM I couldn't take it any more. There was a choice -- candy in the office or a scone. I took the candy .. one Milky War followed by a Three Muskateers. Gobbled them up before I could re-think the decision.

I won't beat myself up too much -- it was a slip. So my question is: Between a candy bar (only ONE) or a cinnamon scone, which would be the best choice? I don't intend to screw up in the future, but it seems like a good question. Carbs or sugar? Which will set me back more?

Thanks for your support out there. I am soon turning 54, having hot flashes, and I guess the LEAST I can do is drop 30 pounds or so.

Cindy

Hi Cindy - I'm right there with you on the hot flashes...they suck, don't they?!? I'm not sure how to answer your question about the scone or the candy bar. They are both high in carbs..about 46 for the milky way and 40 grams of sugar vs 57 carbs but only 19 grams sugar. I don't think either one of them fit into the low carb equation. I guess my brain tells me to go with the scone, might have some sort of nutritional value over the candy bar. What I try to do is always keep something in my purse. Always! Almonds travel well. And will hold you over until you can make a better eating choice. You're totally right..no use beating yourself up. Live and learn.

Hard to say really. The wheat can reawaken cravings to a terrible extent. It is incredibly addictive. A massive dose of sugar probably spiked your blood glucose and caused damage all over your body.

IMHO the best thing to do would have been to get a bag of nuts from a convenience store or vending machine. Failing that, keep some emergency rations in your drawer at work. Beef jerkey, nuts, that sort of thing.

Neither - they're both bad and will both have the same impact! Try not to let it happen again. Take some nuts or something low carb with you and dont forget to eat in future lol!!!

Okay, OKAY, I get it -- nuts, nuts, and add a few more nuts to it. LOL -- it wasn't really a hunger pang, but an overwhelming urge to eat something sweet. I'm not too worried because this diet for the most part isn't too hard for me. I work at a major university with a HUGE cafe, and I just choose meats and some veg's for lunch each day. (You pay by the pound, and those meats are HEAVY, lol!)

Good for you not getting freaked out. My favorite goto has become a spoonful of coconut oil. The hunger goes away!

Coconut oil? Hmmm, might have to pick some up to keep at work. That seems to be the place I have urges. It doesn't help that there is a huge stash of candy bars in the office, which was the "trap" the other day. Thanks all!

I work in a convenience store and I'm surrounded by cakes, chocolate, candy, biscuits, cookies, pasta salads, sandwiches...... you get used to it and learn that its all just bad. I dont even find it hard when we have a breakage anymore. The cravings do go!!!

Thank you - I just wish I'd done this in my 20s instead of being overweight for all those years and finally getting on course in my 40s!! But yes, Atkins works if you stick with it, you'll get there!

This is currently my biggest "low carb regret" - that I didn't do it earlier. But now (age 55) is better than never! And this w.o.e. has helped enormously with my <ahem> middle aged aches and pains.
