So roughly how many calories do most of you eat on a daily basis? If I'm eating too few (most days 1000 or under), I wonder how many I should be having? It's a real problem....eating the foods I need to eat, I can't seem to eat a huge amount.

Hi Carole,

You definitely need more than 1000. If I were to only eat so few I could even gain. The concept of "starvation mode" is difficult to understand, and I have seen folk here say they don't believe in it, but for me it is all too real.

I would suggest a minimum of 1200, but more like 1500.

Are you getting enough fat? Remember that fat is our main source of fuel, so needs to make up 60 to 75% (or more if you wish) of our calories.

Try just adding more butter to your vegies, only using fatty dressing for your salads etc. And you could also try adding in a few nuts. Nuts are pretty high calorie, but great value, nutritionally.

HTH

There are two different standard rules of thumb that you will see mentioned time to time regarding weightloss.

Some will say 10x's how much you weigh now, others will say 10x's your goal weight.

So, somewhere between 1300-1500 calories a day.

1000 or less is definately too little.

Regarding that, I've been confused by the 10x or 12x weight theory. Anyone know where that comes from? It seems strange that I should be eating 2000 calories a day to lose weight. But, I see that calculation a lot. And I see posts from a lot of people who think it works for them.

good to know about how many you should have.. I also sometimes think I am not getting enough.. Sometimes the "fat" makes me feel sick and i cant eat anymore... or the though of more meat and cheese makes me not want to eat.. i have to force myself
