Cool vacationing soon!

My little family is going on vacation next week- we are traveling pretty far. I am wonering what food related precautions any of you take when traveling. Please, let me state right up front- I really am not all that fond of jerky- which is a bummer since it travels well. I did get some Atkins Advantage bars- but I only want them as a last resort!
Suggestions? Past success? Anything?

i don't know how your carb levels are, but when i travel here is what i bring.

pepperoni/sausage/smoked salmon and cheese. peanut butter and celery. nuts. protein bars and shakes. fruit.

will you have a cooler with you? tuna or egg salad. cut up veggies and ranch. salad veggies already put together and precooked chicken or steak to add on.

also don't be afraid of restaurants. i have yet to go anywhere that i couldn't find something on the menu to eat (may have had to substitute salad or veggies for fries and potatoes) and most fast food joints usually have some sort of chicken salad these days. and don't forget about burgers without the buns for those times nothing else is available but mcgaggles (McDonalds).

good luck to you.
