Default 3 portions of grains a day

Last night I saw a TV ad (in the UK) for Nestle saying that the govt/experts now recommend 3 portions a day of wholegrains.

When did this happen? Does it have any scientific basis?

Not that I'm going to rush out and buy the advertised Cheerios but I'd rather not have even more people telling me my paleo diet is unhealthy.

You want your scientific basis? It says "Sponsored by Nestle Whole Grain Cereals." Scientific study shows that scientific studies usually favor the people paying the money.

every time I hear crap like this I put my fingers in my ears and go, 'nah nah nah nah nah... I can't HEAR you..."

ignore it.

(when will people make the connection that ranchers use GRAINS to finish their animals before auction to get them heavier?)

The recipes that go with the article are not healthy at all. The muffin one has lots of sugar in it. It's not even whole-grain sugar!

Part of the problem is that people do not realize (and accept, and eat) what is really a "portion" of grains. A "portion" of a grain product is really quite small, at least to me. People who do eat grains would probably be better off if they adhered to the 3-servings-per-day-rule.

The servings of whole grains per day is probably a lot healthier than 3 servings of crisps or biscuits or chocolate bars. And I'd bet that is the standard for comparison.

Alisbabe, you need a stiff dose of skepticism.

Let the sheeple follow the so-called govt reccomendations, eat their grains and go on wondering why they can't lose the flab. It feels good to know better!
