Default What about Kefir?

Okay, I read the thread about the yogurt and the controversy over that. I had also read in the Go-Diet book that they not only recommend at *least* 8 oz of yogurt, kefir, or buttermilk a day, but that a half cup of any of those only actually has 2 carbs that count because of the whole "lactose eaten up by lactic acid" business. They even claim that "Dr. Goldberg has measured this in his own laboratory."

Now, I still haven't read SB II book, but I'm taking it that she doesn't buy into this and she still wants you to count all the carbs listed on the box, right? Yogurt's not too bad, but the unsweetened kefir I bought lists 13 carbs per cup -- which doesn't really leave much room to make a fruit smoothie. (Which, btw, was actually pretty good.)

And from the sound of it, she didn't convert to the "subtract the fiber" thing in the second book, either. And does she ever give you any kind of "ideal fiber" number, or is it still just "eat lots of veg"?

Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the book in the next couple of weeks, but until then, I really appreciate all the help I can get.

She doesn't even have kefir in the book, that I can see. I guess that would be a personal decision, but Dr. S. doesn't fiddle with carb counts. Lord knows, there are already enough rules.

As for the fruit smoothie, it depends on your program whether or not you can have them. They are only allowed if you are Insulin Sensitive with Healthy Adrenals and then, you can only have it 1-3 times/week if combined with a protein source. Also, they can't be in place of a meal.

No subtration of fiber. Fiber isn't a concern with this WOE, but generally the standard advise is that you should get at least 25 grams of fiber/day.
