Default 3 weeks till baby! Time to get started!

Hi everybody! Well I have about 3 weeks till I deliver and really want to jumpstart my weightloss! I have done atkins before and did pretty well but am kinda confused about atkins and pregnancy/breastfeeding. I have heard so many negative things! Should I do induction or start with another phase? I really want to start soon! thanks guys!

I've never been pregnant, but I'm pretty sure that it's very unwise to begin a diet of any kind until after you deliver - and quite often not immediately after, especially if you're planning to breast feed.

Hopefully someone else can clear this up, but my feeling is please just wait! Look after yourself, keep your energy up so you can deliver a healthy baby, and worry about losing the weight afterwards.

Alaska1204,
Cograts on the baby. I had my baby 3 weeks early & she was perfectly healthy. I'd wait a few months before dieting because you will need your energy for breast feeding that baby. Breast feeding is one of the best things you can do for her or him. I waited 10 months to start worring about my weight. But there's lots of ladies here that have had great success with low carbing & breast feeding.

Good luck. We are all here for you.

Default thanks!

yeah, i was weary about it too until my OBGYN told me that the reason that i was feeling exceptionally sluggish was because of carbs. I told him how well i did with atkins before and he said that some people just don't do well with carbs. He also said cut out the breads and sugars so i was thinking maybe wean myself into maybe phase 3 or so?

When I was pregnant during the last month I had to go low carb because I got GD. It wasn't real strict though but I really had to watch them. I don't know of any one who has done well with high carbs. Maybe good carbs like veggies.

I'd go ahead with a low-carb diet now. But not with the intention of losing weight, just to eat healthier and get rid of the junk. Your baby doesn't need white flour or hydrogenated oils (neither do you). Just make sure you are getting plenty of calories. There is nothing inherently wrong with a LC diet while pregnant or breastfeeding, "they" just don't want you to lose weight (while pregnant) or lose too much weight too fast (while breastfeeding).

I'm in the same boat as you...Baby due in a few weeks, and my midwife has actually suggested I start something low carb, with the intent (as the pp said) of better, healthier eating.

I am also in the same situation. I am 32 weeks along and plan to start LC after delivery but was worried about nursing while doing it. I am really looking forward to being able to eat LC again since I have previously and lost over 30 pounds. I think I will start cutting out some of the bad stuff now and replace it with more veggies.
