is there a way to prevent automatic e-mail notification to threads when doing a quick reply..... I love that option but all the e-mail notifications drive me bonkers, and it's a pain to change my notification every time I quick reply.

Not directly from quick reply. But there's an easy way. Change your options from the UserCP to not subscribe by default. Then you will only be subscribed to thread you have explicity ticked on "subscribe to this thread".

well, I like subscribing to the thread because then I know when responses are made, I just don't like that e-mail notification is bundled with subscription...oh, well....

Not sure I understand. There are several subscription options, instant email, no email, daily digest and weekly digest.

If you don't like receieving email notifications, you can select "no email". This will still subscribe you, and you can see subscribed threads in your UserCP.
