Default Scared to start

Hi all :-) I am new to the forum - started looking into this to loose my last 10-15 pounds. I began exercising in February and have lost 17 pounds with NO dietary changes. I am training to run a marathon in October and have worked VERY hard to be where I am. I ams cared I won't have the energy needed to train if I give up carbs. I *KNOW* I am a "carbo-addict". I have spent months reading how important Carbs are to active people so I am scared! I am heading out tonight to get a Zone book - Atkins is too strict for me. Hope to learn lots!
Amy

You might want to look into something like the BodyOpus diet. It lets you eat carbs on the weekend. You may also want to look into supplements like Endurox Excel. It supposedly makes your body burn fat instead of carbs while exercising so you don't build up acid in your muscles.

Welcome aboard Amy,

Check our exercise forum, and especially (as Jon recommended)the BodyOpus/CKD forum. There are many athletes (some are members here) following it with great results.

Default marathoning ...

Welcome to the board!

Marathon training takes a huge amount of energy. In my opinion, you would be better with the Zone. You may try to experiment with a CKD, but in my experience, you are going to need those carbs.

I coach a marathon team (we are training for the Dublin Marathon in October) and having been a marathoner before, I can tell you that you will need carbs. 26.2 miles is a long way to go and your body will need a fuel source.

Are you running or walking the marathon?

If you have specific questions, please visit the Exercise forum and post them. Fern and I, as well as the very knowldgeable members that hang out there, will answer any questions that you have.
