Question Do I need shake for this kind of weight lifting?

Hello,

I am still in introduction on Atkins diet. I am staying under 20 carbs a day, and calories count is 1500-2000 per day. I am a 34 year old male and now weigh 235 pounds. I fast walk about 2 1/2 to 5 miles everyday, and using a single 25 pounds of dumb bell curls at 90 degrees per arm until I can't to anymore reps for my biceps. I do the reps slow, and it does not take but 2 mins for each arm. I do them a few time a day. I weight train 2 days on, and 1 day off. Does anyone know if the are a shake for my type of diet to improve muscle gain, and protecting the muscle from burning out? Any info would be great appreciated.

Patrick.

I would think that unless you are into serious body building you wouldn't need the extra protein from the shake. I do have a question though, are you only doing biceps? No other exercises?

I'm not sure why you are only doing biceps, but I would recommend that you also work on triceps. I've always heard that you need to work both sets of muscles biceps/triceps, quads/hams etc. otherwise you can get uneven development. Just my $0.02.

Hello camaromom,

When you do pushups it works your chest and triceps.

Thanks
Patrick.

For as little weightlifting that you are doing, I would say you do not need to supplement with any protien powder.

I don't think you need any extra protein at this point. What would be of great benefit to you, however, would be to add more exercises and create a more full routine. Curls are good and i do them some time, but there are many other exercises that would be more beneficial to real- world strength.
