OMG I'm watching an awesome new show...fat to fit on A&E tv. It's about trainers that gain weight and then lose it with an already overweight client. I'm only half way through but so far wow! I don't watch too many weight loss shows but I think I am going to dvr this one for sure and follow it. Himi wow you rocked this game! A few more days and you might have overtaken the amazing Jodi. So crazy what the average american diet consists of. As they say ... you can't outrun a bad diet

Barb I hope you were able to drop a little more to finish the game with an even bigger loss.

Cricket hope you have a wonderful time at the pool and gym today. You've inspired me to go and take another water aerobics class. I'm off from 7am this morning until Friday night at 7pm so i'm gonna go take at least 1 class. I don't know what to do about the frozen shoulder situation..I'm sure I will adjust and adapt as usual.

I am down .4 lbs and TOM started this morning. I hope I am in for a nice long slide. 10 days ago I was at my all time low of 207.4, so I hope to get back there this week!

I hope this chart is correct. I see BARB never had a chance to update yesterday.

BARB - I hope you are well and things are OK for you! I always worry when one of us misses a day. Accidents happen all the time and I just worry.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY is a great name! And I always start my day logging onto my Spark People page to start figuring my menu and read the daily articles for MOTIVATION. That site is not truly geared towards Low Carbing, though. It is more of a Low Fat site. But they STILL have some very motivating articles. This morning I read about PORTION and SERVING SIZE and the differences between the 2. Although, as a "seasoned" dieter, I know the difference because I have been logging my foods daily for 2 years now, it still is important to remind yourself.

The thing I find is that the RECOMMENDED serving size (figured out by the government) is often very different from the serving size listed on the individual packages of food. For instance, a recommended serving of dairy (milk/yogurt etc.) is actually 1 CUP. But if you buy a container of yogurt at the store, it is a 6oz or even 4 oz serving! So you would have to eat almost twice their "serving size" to get the "recommended" serving. Obviously, food companies can set their own "serving size".

SO WHAT IS A PERSON TO BELIEVE? I have always ignored what the recommended serving size is and made my own individual PORTION of that food to fit my OWN individual needs. For instance, I allow only 1/2 cup of yogurt or cottage cheese, rather than whatever is suggested by THEM. I know that my own individual protein and carb levels are very unique, and I must learn to stick within my daily levels. If I have a big ol' chicken leg quarter, then I can not have much else in the way of protein for the day. And a big ol' chicken leg quarter is considered 2-3X MORE than the suggested serving size of 2-3oz of meat! It is a real balancing act to get my menus planned daily!

It may seem like I am being too nit-picky about this, but I am truly trying to train myself into knowing EXACTLY how much I can and cannot eat every day. Because some day I am going to reach my goal weight and I want to know how to eat in order to maintain it! I am almost certain that in the future, I will not be religiously logging every food weighed to the gram. But thanks to my logging NOW, I will have a good idea of what my individual PORTION SIZES should look like. And as long as I keep those portion sizes in control, I should not have to worry about weight gain.

That is my theory. Done with ramble.

Chrissie I hope your day goes well...sorry you had to go in early but hopefully the kiddies will be kind to you today.

Paulette i'm with you I weigh everything I put in my mouth by the grams. I actually enjoy figuring out menus and nutritional values. I like looking on Pintrest and finding new low carb things to make. It's really nice being so close to goal because i'm able to try a lot more foods than when I was in induction. I have motivational sayings on my bathroom mirror and on the fridge...you can never have enough positive reinforcement. Congratulations on heading down the slide..yippee!!

A little blip but totally expected given my midday semi-fasted state weigh-in yesterday-- totally OK with it (and even if i wasnt it is what it is )

Yay on the loss Paulette-- heres hoping its just the first in a looong line of "loser days" this week and beyond!

Kathy I saw a little special clip/preview of that show-- looks very interesting. Trainer gained over 60 pounds before working with his client, then they lost together! I dont have cable/satellite/etc so wont be watching it in real time, but if it gets to Netflix eventually I will catch up with it!

Paulette and Kathy, I pretty much think along the same lines as you guys on the 'preparing for the future' aspect of weighing/planning/portioning.... I still log EVERYTHING, I will measure every so often to refresh myself on what certain portions look like, and for things like HWC, nuts, seeds, and other easily over-eaten foods, I still almost always measure. I had committed to continuing strict logging/weighing through my one year anniversary/100 pounds lost, which ever came first (and the 100 pound loss occured about 45 days before the year anniversary). At that time I re-evaluated whether to scale back on logging/weighing.... but I decided to keep up the strict recording for another 7 months (July 26) and/or when I reach goal (and have maintained it for at least 30 days), whichever comes first. I want to be thoroughly "trained" in what/how much of a particular food works into my meals, AND I want my habits to be as firmly entrenched as possible.

OK.. first.... on confusing charts~~~ I am ocnfused and do not understand Chrissie... The correct chart was posted right before the one that you posted.. so not sure , but all is correct.... by all means, post away and make sure the one copies is the most recent

PAULETTE>>> yea!!! now the drops come As for the 'recommended' vs 'portion'.... recommended by who?? The A-holes that created a food pyramid etc??? Do not give a rat's ass about recommended by anyone other than DR ATKINS and my experience about me! LOOK.. all the foods come with 'portion size' and that is great for figuring out what to put in the food logs but it is not what we HAVE TO HAVE. What fits into our unique menus and plans is what we have. That is the bottom line. If half a portion is good to me then I have half etc or double it for that matter! TUNA is HALF A CAN portion!!!SO, ladies, we are so far beyond this mentality. Everyday that you weigh and track you have reinforced the portion size you want and need. Anything else is just.. well... I for one do not care... it is for those much newer to this than this team! It can be too confusing as well.. KISS is the method I have used since 1996.
KATHY>>> sounds interesting.. just shows us that even trainers are human and have to pay attentnion to plans and what got them healthy! We do that everyday right here
FROZEN shoulder is not a problem.. if you can stretch etc do it.. if you need to use your good arm to help the bad one then do it. Your instructor will not have you do what you acannot do... these classes are geared to the senior person that are available so you will get a good safe work out.. the younger more active do the Zumba and step stuff.. I would guess that where ever you go it is pretty much the same.. aquacise = older farts! It is wonderful though!!Hope you do it.
Do not know where Barb is either but she is so bust at work. This has happened before with her so not going to panic for an other day.

As you said, it all goes off by months end!
CHRISSIE.. you are near goal and this is a critical time to keep going. You have done so wonderfully all this time.. a few blips but mostly losses and stable and that is fantastic! It is fine to have a meal off once a week and not go crazy with it.. plan ahead and see how you do.You can always make it 2 times a month. BUT this will get you back into the real world and get you working the plan on and off. I always recommend going 5 pounds under your goal for wiggle room.If you go under then the flux/gain is not impacting you at all. You are so close! So proud of you!!!

HIMI.... eve at goal you should be tracking your foods.. the menus will increase and change as will your foods so it wil be SOOO easy to be off and not reaize it.

Cricket whoo hoo on your day 1 whoosh!! Yea now that I think about it I took a water aerobics class a couple years ago when my right shoulder was frozen and the instructor just told me to keep moving during the arm portion and i'll be fine. You are so right...it is so easy to add a few grams here and there without realizing it if you're not tracking and before you know it pow 5 pounds appear "somehow"??

Today is my son Blaine's birthday so we're taking him to golden corral. I will eat on plan but no doubt too much protein because I love the grilled pork chops and pot roast.
