Default Phase 2. . . again

Right, I'm going to go into phase 2 from tomorrow.
As I understand it, I can add either a serving of fruit or starch to my diet.

I've decided to go with the fruit. Although to be honest, I'm a bit scared by the thought (cause I love fruit and think it'll be a struggle to limit myself).

As it's summer and berries are very much in season, I bought some (blueberries and rasberries) in the shop yesterday in anticipation of starting phase 2 tomorrow. Was thinking of having them as dessert (after dinner).

But I'm not sure that's the best way to start off.

I'm thinking that perhaps I should add some dried fruit to my flaxmeal muffins instead. I eat these as my pre-gym snack. Does this sound like a good idea?

Is it better to have fruit in the morning? or afternoon? or evening?

Also since I'm adding something in (fruit), does that mean I am increasing my overall calorie intake? Or do I reduce something else to compensate?

I think adding in a fruit to start off with is an excellent idea and the berries are a great choice.

The up-dated food lists recommend not having the fruit for breakfast, but rather to save it for later in the day, say lunch or dinner or a snack. Be careful of any dried fruit as they can be higher in carbs and many of them have added sugar. Read the labels carefully on this one! Fresh is always best if you can do it!

You might be adding in a minimal amount of extra calories. Remember fruit isnt' that high in calories. Watch and see how your body responds to it.

I would say to just have 1 added fruit this week, then next week maybe add in another or perhaps one of the other things that can be added in, but whatever you do.....Be careful of adding in grains. Many SB'ers trying to lose weight or those who have insulin issues, never add in grains or do it very seldomly. Just go slow, try things out one at a time and see how your body reacts!

I agree with what Charran has told you.

It is not recommended to have fruit in the morning....at first....later into your plan, you can try that. Have 1 fruit a day for the first week.

I've always eaten dried apricots and prunes and this fact alone may have caused my weight loss to be slow but I liked them and was careful with portions.

So yes, go with berries at first...canteloupe too.

I love summer and all it's great fruit!!

I love summer fruit. Pre-SBD I could sit and eat a kilo of berries. I love fruit in general. So limiting them will be hard. It'll take will power to only eat half a cup of berries knowing that I've got the rest of them in the fridge.

As with many other foods...portion control is key. Be sure to have your fruit with a protein.....ie: yogurt and berries or cottage cheese and berries.

In an ideal world, where weight-control is not a problem, it would be berries and cream.
I might have them with some soy yogurt instead.

I actually eat my blueberries and raspberries with a little dollop of Cool Whip Lite and count it toward my sweet treats for the day. It's so yummy!

I don't think Cool Whip is dairy. Check the ingredients to be sure. Ready Whip or whipped cream in a spray can IS dairy, however.

Yum. Those suggestions sound lovely!

I'm pretty sure we don't have coolwhip here but I'm sure we have something similar. Question is though, don't whipped toppings usually have added sugar?

Having just checked out the ingredients for Cool Whip Lite, you might want to have a rethink before eating it again.

... and you're right, it's definitely NOT dairy, unless you count the sodium caseinate!

Thanks for the ingredient info, Demi. I will definitely be careful not to overdo it! That's why I only have a dollop.

2 TBS has 20 calories and 1 gram of sugar, and since it was mentioned in the South Beach menus as a topping for the s/f jello dessert, I felt pretty safe having it. It's been manageable so far, but I'll be sure to watch my portions!
