Default Coconut flour

I'm curious about coconut flour, its mentioned in my george stella cookbook. Does it taste like coconuts? Does it affect you like the coconut oil?

I usually mix in other flavors so I don't really taste the coconut. It doesn't give me intestinal issues like coconut oil, if that is what you mean. I think coconut flour has had most of the oil taken out of it.

agreed.

i use it to make a loaf cake, as well as muffins- they taste like coconut, but i love that flavor.

I made some dumplings yesterday and they were great, no coconut taste, not even the sweetness I taste in pancakes.

To me, the coconut taste is just barely there. It's not like extra-virgin coconut oil - that almost makes me gag. :P

You might taste the coconut flour if it's an otherwise bland recipe, but if it's spiced up, you probably won't. "Bland" might be a plain cookie recipe, while "spiced up" might be meatloaf, meatballs, pumpkin spice muffins, etc.

When I made coconut flour cheese tea biscuits, my picky SO loved them and didn't even notice that it was coconut. He said it tasted "dessert-like" but couldn't place it.

this is a much better description of what i meant my loaf cake and muffins turn out like!
and my super picky SO also loves them, picks up on a sweet taste but not identifiably coconut.

we love the bread with a fresh strawberry syrup for a great brunch type meal, with a slice of cheddar and chicken sausage patty, or simply with butter.

i would NOT use it for something like pizza or a turkey sandwich, but anything that will work with a touch of sweetness is awesome!

i would *think* it works better with other flours, but we are very limited as SO is very allergic to nuts.

We find it very cake like and sweet, and cookies crumble very easily, but again, taste great.

I'm off and on with coconut flour. It passed through me like a rock and the recipes tend to be eggy as I guess the flour doesn't like to stick to itself. On the positive side, it is very "floury" in the sense that it is the most like wheat flour that I've tried.

I tried making coconut bread. It didn't turn out so well it was about 1 1/2 or 2 in high and very dry. But its the only thing i have attempted with it.
