Default Butter Beans

I have a can of "Siena" butter beans which I bought recently which are imported from Italy. I bought them because they list carbs as 2.2 g per 100g. However being a suspicious person lol I checked a few Aussie brands (Edgells, Masterfood etc) which all have much higher carb counts. The Siena beans seem to be bigger and flatter than the local variety and I wonder if they are a different variety to what is known as butter beans here?

I checked on the Dietclub database and it lists the local canned hi carb varieties, but then also has an entry for fresh boiled butter beans which have carb levels like the Italian ones!

Now I am suspicious and confused. Help?

Malcolm

yeah! I would be confused and suspicious too! I would love to know too as I love beans and if there is a hope of a low carb butter bean I would be in heaven! I so hope this is good news.

malcolm, i answered your ? on the other forum...i think it may be that the local varieties have extra sugar added as the preservative? although, the actual carb count of the beans is high, but the sugar count is not. hmmm. this is an interesting question. maybe you could do some calling and find out?
